Department of Molecular Biology

The Department of Molecular Biology (DMB) is hosted by the Faculty of Science, Palacky University (https://www.upol.cz/) and the Center of the Region Hana for Biotechnological and Agricultural Research (http://www.cr-hana.eu/en/). Our department offers an international environment, regrouping people coming from Czech Republic, Slovakia, Japan, Argentina, Vietnam and France.

Researchers at the DMB aim at understanding the role of two hormones, cytokinins (CKs) and auxin, in plants and fungi growth and development. We address questions such as hormone metabolism, sensing and signaling pathway. Our models comprise plant models such as Arabidopsis thaliana, barley, maize and wheat, and cyanobacteria and fungi.

Our researchers are involved in the education of the future generation of scientists, taking part of the Biochemistry study programs (bachelor and master; https://www.prf.upol.cz/katedra-biochemie/). We offer our expertise in plant physiology, microbiology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics. We already hosted several students from abroad (Belgian, Lithuania, Netherlands, Iran, Italy, France) in the frame of international exchange projects, and are welcoming students from any horizon.
