About herbarium
- international abbreviation according to Index Herbariorum - OL
- founded in 1946, collections from the period before this date are represented only sparsely
- contains approximately 100,000 specimens, mostly of vascular plants, collected mainly in Central Europe
- the annual increase currently amounts to approximately 3000-5000 specimens
- some taxonomically critical groups are significantly represented
- genus Taraxacum, especially section Taraxacum (= Ruderalia), containing at least 20,000 specimens mainly from the Czech Republic
- genus Rubus, approximately 20,000 specimens also mainly from the Czech Republic
- collections from other regions of Europe and the world less represented (Southeast Asia, South America, Oceania, Africa)
- since May 2015, the herbarium of the Department of Botany has been enriched with sets of permanent preparations of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae; mounting medium Pleurax, Naphrax) for taxonomic and ecological studies by a team of algologists under under the leadership of Prof. RNDr. Aloisie Poulíčková, CSc., as well as bachelor's, master's and doctoral theses carried out at the Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, UP from 1996 to the present.
The collections of former (V. Bednář, J. Bednářová, M. Dančák, J. Dostál, B. Jílek, J. Mládek, O. Mrkos, A. Pečinka, V. Pluhař, V. Velísek) as well as current (M. Duchoslav, M. Hroneš, B. Trávníček, R. Vašut) employees of the department are significantly represented.

Loans and herbarium visits
For interested members of the professional public, it is possible to prepare a list of specimens for a given genus or species upon request, which can be borrowed for study upon agreement. Herbarium items are not sent by post. If you are interested in visiting the herbarium or viewing particular specimen, please do not hesitate to contact the herbarium administrator.
