OLTWINS is a brand of modular Mössbauer spectrometers developed for research and industry. Our systems combine precise measurements, flexible configurations and efficient use of the radioactive source.

The OLTWINS brand is developed by a team of scientists and engineers at the Department of Experimental Physics, Faculty of Science, Palacký University Olomouc. Our work is based on decades of experience in Mössbauer spectroscopy, detector development, electronics and materials research. We use this experience to build reliable instruments for standard measurements and specialised experiments.
We offer complete spectrometers, individual components and custom solutions. Our systems can support transmission measurements, CEMS, CXMS and advanced experimental arrangements.
Up to Ten Spectra from One Source
The OLTWINS MultiBeam design allows several Mössbauer spectra to be acquired at the same time. TenBeam is the high-throughput product in the OLTWINS range. It provides up to ten independent measurement channels and acquires up to ten Mössbauer spectra simultaneously from one radioactive source.
This arrangement makes better use of the available source activity. It is especially useful for comparative studies, sample series and laboratories that need to process many measurements.
Each of the ten beams can be configured for transmission measurements or combined detection modes. Available combinations include transmission with CEMS, transmission with CXMS, and CEMS with CXMS.
The configuration is selected for the customer and can be modified using available OLTWINS equipment. The spectrometer can operate in a horizontal or vertical arrangement.
In the MultiBeam arrangement, the radioactive source remains fixed inside the radiation shielding. Doppler modulation is produced by moving the absorber, together with the selected detector arrangement.
One OLTWINS e-unit operates two detectors. The number of detector signals acquired at the same time therefore depends on the selected detection modes and the number of installed acquisition units.
One System. Different Measurement Modes.
OLTWINS systems can support several Mössbauer measurement modes. Depending on the configuration, a setup can combine:
- transmission Mössbauer spectroscopy,
- Conversion Electron Mössbauer Spectroscopy (CEMS),
- Conversion X-ray Mössbauer Spectroscopy (CXMS),
- gamma-ray backscattering,
- time-differential and coincidence measurements.
Transmission, CEMS and CXMS measurements can also be combined for the same sample in selected configurations. This gives researchers more information without rebuilding the complete setup.
Configured for Your Application
A spectrometer must fit the experiment. We configure each OLTWINS system around the required measurement geometry, detectors, electronics and sample environment.
Our product range includes compact single-channel instruments, standard laboratory spectrometers, MultiBeam systems and custom arrangements. Solutions can be prepared for limited spaces and for use with equipment such as cryostats or high-temperature furnaces.
The system is delivered as an integrated setup. We also provide technical consultation for non-standard applications.

Mössbauer spectroscopy provides information about the local chemical, magnetic and electronic environment of selected nuclei. OLTWINS systems can be used in:

Typical samples include iron-containing minerals, magnetic materials, nanoparticles, steels, corrosion products, pigments, ceramics and biological iron systems.
Precise Data for Reliable Analysis
OLTWINS combines controlled Doppler velocity modulation with dedicated detection and acquisition electronics. The system is designed for stable operation and precise spectrum acquisition.
The modular design allows the instrument to be adapted without changing the basic measurement platform.
Software for Measurement and Control
OLTWINS spectrometers are operated through dedicated software with a graphical user interface. The software displays acquired spectra in real time and supports simultaneous measurements across multiple channels.
It runs on Windows and Linux and includes basic scripting tools for integration into larger experimental setups.

The OLTWINS team develops spectrometers while actively using Mössbauer spectroscopy in research. Our work covers materials analysis, detector technology, electronics and nuclear quantum optics.
