Social responsibility

We pass on new findings

The Faculty of Science plays a significant role in the field of popularization and promotion of science in the long run. It was our faculty that came with the idea of today's University Science Fair, which originally started as a Fair for Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. Children's University which involves other faculties of Palacký University originally started at the Faculty of Science. We also bring new knowledge to the public through lecture cycles Current Chemistry or Rudolf Zahradník Lecture Series or single lectures held at the faculty or at the Fort Science. In addition, this interactive science museum organizes educational events for different age groups. We closely cooperate with schools, we support gifted and motivated high school students. There is a Geopark designated for schools and the public behind the main faculty building. It was opened in 2016 and provides information on the rocks of Moravia and Silesia.

The Faculty of Science offers expert opinions on a number of issues through its staff, whether it is cooperation with state or public administration, non-profit organizations or the media. It is an expert institute in the fields of chemistry (inorganic, organic, analytic, physical), healthcare (toxicology) and ecology (population dynamics and population management, ecology of communities and ecosystems, ecology of freshwater ecosystems, microbial ecology, hydrobiology, landscape protection and creation, pedology and soil protection, care for specially protected areas and endangered species of plants and animals, assessment of impact on wildlife, assessment of impacts on the Natura 2000 system, etc.).

We motivate students

The faculty's management supports students in their efforts to care for their surroundings and not to be indifferent to others. Thanks to the project Pamper your Nature! they may come up with ideas on how to improve the environment at the faculty, contribute to its promotion, revitalize local social and cultural events, or co-operate with secondary schools. In this regard, local student associations are also involved by organizing cultural and sporting events, support community life or organize events for the environment.

We help the ones in need

As early as 2008, the faculty, under the auspices of the Dean, organizes a Christmas Collection for children from Klokánek institutes in Olomouc and Dlouhá Loučka, which have been established by the Fund for Endangered Children. Students, employees and partners dedicate toys, durable food, cosmetics, clothing and footwear for children to find under the Christmas tree. According to organizers, the amount of gifts grows year after year.

We take care of our employees

The faculty, as a responsible employer, offers its workers a number of benefits, including the possibility of part-time work or flexible working hours. The faculty was one of the initiators of opening a kindergarten, we also think of the children of our employees when drawing the social fund. Celebration of the Children's Day has already become a traditional event. We create opportunities for taking a break and relaxation of our academic and non-academic staff. They can spend their holiday at the faculty cabin in Karlov at discounted rates, in Holice campus they can play sports on the faculty court, in the Envelopa building it is possible to play table tennis after agreement.

The faculty's management continues to strive to provide a comfortable environment for employees. In the campus in Holice there is a recently built park at their disposal.

We do not forget our seniors

The faculty keeps regular contact with its seniors. They are welcome at regular meetings after the end of each semester, during Advent we organize a meeting with the elderly. Golden and Silver graduation ceremonies (50, resp. 25 years after graduation) are a great way to show respect and express thanks to the alumni for spreading the good name of their alma mater. There is a Tree of Graduates growing in the Park behind the faculty since 2016. Events for seniors are organized by the Fort Science as well.
