Synthesis, Anthelmintic Activity, and Mechanism of Action of 5-Aryl-1H-indoles

Thursday 18 December 2025, 6:56

Our new article in Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry describes a series of 5-aryl-1H-indoles with pronounced anthelmintic activity. Selected compounds effectively paralyze both animal and plant parasitic nematodes while exhibiting low toxicity toward mammalian cells. By combining biological assays, genetic mutants, and molecular modeling, we elucidated their likely mechanism of action targeting mitochondrial complex II. The study demonstrates that a simple indole scaffold can serve as a promising basis for the development of a new generation of sustainable antiparasitic agents.
