Conference: Regional Development between Theory and Practice

The Masaryk Institute of Higher Studies CTU invites to the 13th annual conference on Regional Development between Theory and Practice on the topic of Addressing Socio-Economic Disparities in Times of Uncertainty. The conference takes place on Thursday, 5 June 2025 at the Masaryk Institute of Higher Studies CTU in Prague.

The deadline for conference registration has been extended from 21 April 2025 to 28 April 2025.

Mandatory reporting of mobilities

Every mobility, regardless of the source of funding, must be reported at least one month before its start to Mgr. Marie Raková at marie.rakova@upol.cz from the International section of the Student Affairs Office. Outgoing mobilities are primarily reported by students, incoming mobilities by the department. Details can be found on the faculty website.

Records of foreign guests

It is the responsibility of the department to register foreign guests. If you have international guests visiting your department, enter their information in the Portal as follows:

• click on "All Applications" in your Portal
• click on the "Guest Admission" tile
• press the "+New" button and fill out the newly opened form.

Mobility scholarship

A student who goes on any mobility abroad for 30 days or more (study stay, research internship, work placement, summer school, etc.), can apply for a scholarship of CZK 5,000 for each mobility. The request must be submitted before departure. Details here.

Co-financing of trips and internships abroad

If the primary source does not cover all the necessary costs, it is possible to apply for additional funding for student internships or employee trips abroad. The completed and signed application form (for students, for employees) send either by internal mail to Waleria Slowiková (Student Affairs Office) or send a signed scan to waleria.slowikova@upol.cz. JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Overseas Researchers

The Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) in cooperation with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) has announced scholarships under the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Overseas Researchers programme.

Applications are open for a stay of 12-24 months at Japanese workplaces, starting no later than 30 November 2025. The deadline for applications is 28 April 2025. All documentation is available for download on the CAS website in the news section of the International Relations section, and includes summary instructions for applicants, the application form and instructions for completing it.

Internships at the international astronomical organisation ESO

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MSMT) is opening a call for applicants for a paid internship at the international astronomical organization ESO (European Southern Observatory), with a location in Germany or Chile. The internship is intended for Master's and PhD students as well as scientists and engineers who have already completed their studies, work in the fields specified in the call and are up to 32 years of age. The internship participant receives a scholarship to cover living expenses. Applications must be submitted by 30 April 2025.

The regular meeting of the Academic Senate FS UP will take place on 23 April 2025 at 13:00 in the conference room of the Dean's Office. Detailed information and materials as well as the link to the stream will be available at the given time of the meeting on the senate website (in Czech).

Student Scientific Competition – Dean's Award

Are you proud of your scientific achievements? Then enter the ‘Student Scientific Competition – Dean's Award’ and win an extraordinary scholarship! All students of the Faculty of Science are eligible to compete in the sections of Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology and Environment, and Earth Sciences. The poster session is also open.

The competition takes place on 5 May 2025, and you can register until 30 April 2025 on the website, where you will also find detailed information. The competition will award 1st - 3rd place in each category of each section and its winner in each section. In addition, the overall winner of the competition will be announced and will receive an extraordinary scholarship of 15,000 CZK.

Fort Science celebrates ten years

The Fort Science, which was opened in 2015 by the Faculty of Science of Palacký University in a former 19th-century artillery warehouse near the historic centre of Olomouc, is celebrating its tenth anniversary. The celebrations will take place on 25 and 26 April with night tours of interactive exhibitions and an attractive accompanying programme, which will include the installation of giant planet models in front of the building. The programme will run until 10 pm. UP employees and students have free admission to the exhibitions on both days. More information here.

Academia Film Olomouc

The International Festival of Science Documentary Films Academia Film Olomouc (AFO) of Palacký University will celebrate its 60th anniversary. Instead of a nostalgic retrospective, however, the jubilee edition, which will take place from 22 to 27 April 2025, looks boldly forward. This year's motto “Work in Progress” will remind us that the festival is a metaphor for the changing world around us and the constantly evolving scientific fields.

The jubilee edition will bring a number of innovations in the programme. For example, the dramaturgy team has included for the first time an immersive media competition to highlight the growing importance of virtual and augmented reality. The festival will once again feature talks, film screenings, workshops, concerts, exhibitions, walks, as well as an interactive programme for the whole family on the Upper Square (Horní náměstí). Canteen

The UP Canteens will remain closed on 2 and 9 May 2025 for operational and technical reasons. Electrical equipment and wiring will be reviewed, as well as minor repairs and upgrades to the KREDIT system.

Entrepreneurial Head

The Palacký University Science and Technology Park in Olomouc (VTP UP) announces the 15th year of the Entrepreneurial Head competition, the aim of which is to award the best business ideas not only of Palacký University students, but also of aspiring or experienced entrepreneurs from the public. The winner will receive a grand prize of CZK 50,000, advice and consultation with mentors worth CZK 130,000, a year's lease of a workplace in Olomouc's Element Coworking or a 50% discount on a year's office lease. Applications for the competition can be submitted until 20 May 2024.

For the sixteenth time, students and employees of Palacký University, as well as other aspiring entrepreneurs from the entire Olomouc region, can apply for the Entrepreneurial Head competition organised by the Palacký University Science and Technology Park in Olomouc (VTP UP). Those who have an idea for their own business and want to take it a step further now have two months to submit the application. They can compete for prizes worth CZK 400,000, which are intended to support the successful implementation of their projects. After the initial registration on the website, the necessary documents for the business plan must be submitted by 20 May 2025.

Olomouc Runs for the Planet

Join the Olomouc Runs for the Planet chaity run and support the endangered Kahau monkeys in Borneo and environmental education. Every step will support the non-profit organization Save Balikpapan Bay. Specifically, their Education4Conservation project, which connects hands-on nature conservation and environmental education in Indonesia, Africa, and also here in the Czech Republic. The run will take place on 13 May 2025 at 18:00.

Password change

All UP employees and students will have to change their passwords for logging into the university systems by the end of the academic year, or at the latest by the end of the calendar year. For better cybersecurity, they will be replaced by a new form of password, which must be at least 12 characters long, contain upper and lower case letters, a number and a special character. In addition, it will need to be changed once a year.

When changing, the password must not be repeated and must not contain the user's name or other relevant identifiers (e.g. date of birth, telephone numbers, names of partners or children, etc.).

Users who have not changed their password in the last year will be prompted to change it directly in the relevant applications, i.e. in SAP, STAG and the UP Portal. The password set by the user in the UP Portal is also used by other applications and services, including e-mail, UP Reflexe, UPlikace and Microsoft 365. For now, this action does not apply to passwords for VPN gateway and eduroam. Password change prompts will not be sent via email!

The Computer Centre (CVT) will therefore gradually initiate technical measures to enforce the appropriate passwords. If users do not change their passwords in time, this will lead to blocking access to the user account. Subsequently, the password will have to be reset – similar to the case of forgetting it.
