Dear colleagues,
with the end of the academic year approaching, I would like to thank you all for your hard work while teaching, research as well as popularizing activities. Many thanks also go to administrative and technical staff who help to keep the faculty running. High standard that we have been able to maintain has been confirmed by evaluation of the National Accreditation Office, which we passed without any major problems in all study fields of the faculty. Institutional accreditation will be a leitmotif for many departments also in the upcoming months. I hope you will be able to enjoy a well-deserved break during the summer and regain your strength for the following academic year.

Werner von Siemens Award
Siemens has announced another round of the Werner von Siemens Award. Competition categories reflect the current needs in the company as well as in science. You may choose categories at The winners will be rewarded with a high amount of money. Deadline for submissions is November 25.

For Students

Graduation ceremony of Bachelor and Master degree students
Bachelor and Master degree graduation ceremonies will take place from June 25 to 28 at the Faculty of Arts, Křížkovského 10. We ask students to inform the study department as soon as possible after successful completion of their studies whether they will attend the graduation ceremony. The fee is CZK 500. Instructions for payment of the fee can be found at In the same link, you will find the exact schedule of graduation ceremonies in the second half of June.

Higher grade enrollment
For the enrollment of students in higher grades of Bachelor and follow-up Master degree courses, evidence and A registration lists will not be submitted. Study obligations for academic year 2017/2018 must be fulfilled by 6.9.2018. By this date, the results must be entered in STAG. After September 6 no examinations / credits / colloquia for 2017/2018 may be entered into STAG. Students are required to check entering of the results to STAG by the above date.

Extending the study
Students of the third year of Bachelor degree programs and of the second year of the follow-up Master degree programs who do not fulfill all study duties - i.e. they will not have a closed year before the SZZ / defense by 6.9.2018 must apply for study extension at the study department by the same date.

Picking up diplomas
Students who will not attend June graduation ceremonies may pick up their diploma from July 9, in the office hours at the study department (a valid ID card with them). Should the diploma be picked up by another person, a verified power of attorney is required.

Evaluations by Doctoral students
We ask students of doctoral study programs to submit their evaluations for academic year 2017/2018 by June 30. The evaluation must be signed by the student and his/her supervisor and must include the supervisor's written opinion on whether or not he recommends promotion to a higher grade. Even after submitting the evaluation, the student can complete the courses he / she had registered in STAG by September 6. After this date, conditions for promotion to the next year will be checked. Students of fourth and higher years will also submit an application for extension of their studies. The application must also include the statement and signature of the supervisor.

Department of Teacher Training would like to inform students of
the continuing teacher training of students of the 2nd follow-up and parallel complementary study of teaching will be held from September 24 to October 12. The application form is available on the website. Only logged-in students will be included in the continuous teaching practice. The closing date for applications is September 3. After this date, you will not be able to sign up. Contemporary teacher training is provided to students who complete it during the above mentioned dates. Study department´s office hours during summer holidays
July 2 to 6 and August 6 to 10 the study department will be closed. On the other days during the summer, i.e. from July 9 to August 24, the office hours are as follows:

International and outer University Information

English Courses for Employees and Ph.D. Students
The Department of Foreign Languages offers English courses for staff and Ph.D. students of the Faculty in winter semester 2018/2019. You may choose from a wide selection of courses which is available here.

Internationalization - consultation day
On Wednesday, June 20, a meeting with the Vice-Rector for Foreign Affairs Martin Kudlacek will take place in the large lecture hall in SLO building. Everyone with questions regarding internationalization of study and workplaces, mobility of students and employees and other international affairs, you are cordially invited.


Faculty Operation

Cash register
Due to summer vacations from July 17-27, the cash register will only be opened on July 20 and 27 in the morning and on July 24 all day.

Working hours of catering facilities during summer holidays
The Spaghetti bistro on the 6th floor will be closed in July and August. Fresh up will be open from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm, the Holice canteen will operate additional sales from 8:00 to 1:00 pm and hot meals will be served from 10:30 to 1:30.

Opening hours for the faculty buildings
Operating the gateways of the main faculty building and in Holice campus will run in standard mode. From July 2 to August 24, the SLO gate will be opened from 7:00 to 3:30. The VLD office door will be opened from 7:00 to 3:00 during July 2 to August 31.

Hours of the library
Library in Envelopa will be closed from July 7 to August 5, in Holice from July 2 to July 8.

Replenishment of openings in room 3.004
In Room 3.004, Window Replacement will be made on June 18, depending on the weather. Work will be done mainly from outside. Since a platform will be built the entrance / exit to / from the building will be limited by the main entrance on 17.listopadu. Staff and students can use the entrance to the park (direction to the dorm) or the entrance to the garage.

Photo competition
The Royal Society Publishing is organizing a photo competition in five categories. Astronomy, Behavior, Earth Science, Climatology, Ecology and Environmental Science, Micro-imaging. The main criteria are the esthetic impression and conveying the scientific phenomenon. The overall winner will receive 500 GBP, winners of each category 250 GBP. Edwards Awards
Edwards company will for the third time be rewarding authors of the most innovative technical-focused diploma theses. The author of the best work will receive CZK 20,000. It will mainly depend on the originality and innovation of the industry. Master thesis must be successfully defended, must not be older than three years and must be technically focused. The first issue of the Faculty Newsletter in the next academic year will be released on September 17. During the holidays, the Newsletter is not released.
