Dean's Award for authors of prestigious scientific publications

The Dean of the Faculty of Science will award the authors and author groups of teaching and popular science texts, monographs and original scientific publications for 2023. Submitting the publication will be possible from 15 September 2023. The publication (publication set) is submitted by the author via a web form on the Portal. You can find the application form here (in Czech). If the publication is already listed in OBD, it is possible to use automatic data loading from OBD when filling it out. The printed and signed application must be delivered by internal mail to the Department of Science and Research of the UP Faculty of Science to Bc. Barbora Krudencová no later than 25 October 2023.

Submitted publications must meet the following conditions:

  • The scientific journal where the paper is published is in the 90th percentile and above in the given subject class according to the Web of Science.
  • The proposed scientist is an employee of the Faculty of Science with workload of minimum 50 %, and he/she presents the affiliation of the Faculty of Science as the main workplace.
  • The main or corresponding author of a given publication must be an employee of the Faculty of Science.
  • The publication was published in print in 2023. Papers published in 2022 can also be submitted if they were not entered in the competition in the previous year.

DZS – DigiEduHack 2023

The next edition of DigiEduHack will take place at the beginning of November. Registration is still open to all organisations (higher education institutions, schools at all levels, innovation centres, research laboratories, etc.) interested in organising a local 24-hour hackathon focusing on a specific challenge in the field of digitalisation in education. The entire initiative is accompanied by a series of webinars presenting current topics in the field of digitalisation and the initiative itself. MEYS – LUABA24

MEYS has announced a call for proposals in the LUABA24 Bilateral Projects Czech Republic - Bavaria, Programme I-E II, sub-programme INTER-ACTION.

The aim of LUABA24 is to select joint applied research projects focusing on the following areas/sub-areas:

  1. Computer and Information Sciences
  2. Engineering and Technology, specialising in Materials Research, Nanotechnology
  3. Social Sciences
  4. Humanities and Arts.

The duration of the supported projects is set at 2.5 years.

The competition period for submission of project proposals (applicants' requests for targeted support) begins on 16 September 2023 and ends on 30 November 2023. Faculty deadline: 28 November 2023. MEYS – LUAIZ24

MEYS has announced a call for proposals in the LUAIZ24 Bilateral Projects Czech Republic – State of Israel, Programme I-E II, sub-programme INTER-ACTION.

The LUAIZ24 competition will accept proposals for joint Czech-Israeli projects in the industrial research category (Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 2-4)3 that will lead to technological applicability and development of new products, focusing on one of the following areas/sub-areas:

  1. Health and medicine - drug design and development
  2. Sustainability and environmental protection - climate change, clean energy, desert research, water
  3. Data science - applications of artificial intelligence.

The competition period for submission of project proposals (applications from applicants for special-purpose support) starts on 11 September 2023 and ends on 15 November 2023. Faculty deadline for submission: 13 November 2023. Please deliver the green request form "košilka" + Brief project information by 9 November 2023 to Ing. Tea Pokorná (tea.pokorna@upol.cz). The Czech Science Foundation (GA CR)

GA CR is launching a call for projects based on the Lead Agency evaluation principle with an expected start date in 2025. The call concerns projects funded in cooperation with the Polish National Science Centre (NCN) under the Weave initiative. In this call, the Polish NCN acts as Lead Agency, i.e. evaluates the project proposals scientifically, and the GA CR takes over the results of the evaluation process. The competition period started on 15 September 2023.

The Czech part of the application can be submitted until 22 December 2023 at the latest, i.e. 7 days after the official deadline set by the NCN Agency for Polish applicants on 15 December 2023.

In order to complete the administrative steps for submitting the project proposal, it is necessary to deliver by 18 December 2023 the following:

Project proposals to be submitted via databox send to lubica.korcanova@upol.cz, by 20 December 2023.

The affidavit/declaration of eligibility was sent on behalf of Palacký University Olomouc.

Horizon Europe – Life Sciences – National Information Day

The aim of the event, organised by the Technology Centre Prague in cooperation with the Czech University of Life Sciences (ČZU), is to highlight new opportunities of the Horizon Europe programme. Speakers will focus on current challenges in the field of life sciences (in particular Cluster 6 – Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment), relevant European partnerships or opportunities offered by the programme to support broadening participation. A successful project coordinator will also share his/her experience. The language of the event will be English and it will take place on 24 October 2023 physically at ČZU. Horizon Europe – UK

On 7 September 2023, the UK and the EU reached an agreement on association with the HE programme. From this date, UK scientists can become a fully associated member for the remaining duration of the programme until 2027.

Interreg Austria – Czech Republic

The joint secretariat of the Interreg Austria - Czech Republic programme has prepared seminars for applicants interested in submitting a project application under the Interreg Austria-Czech Republic 2021-2027 programme. The current call is open until 30 November 2023. The seminars will focus on familiarisation with the general rules of the programme, priority axes, allocations or project application requirements including mandatory annexes or eligibility of expenditure. Individual seminars will be held in Jihlava (17 October), Brno (18 October) and České Budějovice (2 November) from 10:00 to 13:00. The registration link can be found here (in Czech).

L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science

L'Oréal in the Czech Republic opens registrations for the 18th year of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme. Since its inception, the program, which focuses on empowering women in many scientific fields, once again offers a platform to recognize and support promising women scientists. A prize of 600,000 CZK, which can be used for any purpose, will be distributed among three winners. Research projects can be submitted until 31 December 2023 via the platform www.forwomeninscience.com.

You can print your confirmation of study online directly from your Portal.

State doctoral examination and dissertation defense

The application for your dissertation defense or the state doctoral examination has to be submitted at least 3 months in advance. Follow the requirements and deadlines listed on the website in the section for Doctoral Study.

Extraordinary scholarships for doctoral students for publishing activities

In 2023, the UP Faculty of Science will award one-time extraordinary scholarships to authors of prestigious publications from among the doctoral students studying in the regular period of study (i.e. students of 1st to 4th year). An extraordinary scholarship for publishing activity will be awarded to doctoral students who, in 2023, report a publication as the first or corresponding author with an affiliation to the Faculty of Science, UP, in a journal registered in the first or second quartile of a given subject category (Q1 or Q2 in Subject Category, SC) according to Journal Citation Reports©. If a journal falls into more than one SC, the SC with the highest percentile will be counted. The publication must have a publication year of 2023 or be accepted for printing before submitting the application. An author can be awarded a scholarship only once for a specific publication. One author may apply for a scholarship for more than one publication.

The printed scholarship applications (use the general request form) should be submitted to Mgr. Waleria Słowiková (in person or through the internal mail) no later than 15 November 2023. Scholarships will be paid out in one lump sum on the following payment date. The amount of the scholarship will depend on the number of applications received and the percentile of the journal's ranking in SC.

The scholarship application should contain:

  • the student's name and surname
  • e-mail address
  • study programme and year of study
  • the name, surname and e-mail address of the supervisor, the consent and signature of the supervisor if necessary
  • a full citation, including the DOI, of the publication that is subject of the request
  • confirmation of acceptance for printing in the case of publications in print
  • printed full text (Pre-proof) of the publication.

HELLATHON

We would like to invite you to participate in the second edition of the HELLATHON competition, which will take place on 24 - 25 November 2023 at the Faculty of Science, Palacký University Olomouc. The event is intended for enthusiasts of new technologies and software.

  • The university team will have 24 hours to complete the assignment. The maximum number of participants in a team is 5.
  • A maximum of 3 teams can complete one topic at the same time.
  • When evaluating the results of the teams' activities, the organizer will evaluate in particular the ongoing solution of the assigned topic, the processing quality, the creative and innovative approach, teamwork and the continuous and final presentation of the topic solution.
  • Registration is open until 30 October 2023. Registration is should be done by one of the team members (organiser for the whole team).
  • Prizes worth more than CZK 80,000 will be given away!

Organization and Maintenance

Water supply shutdown and Moodle outages

On Tuesday, 24 October, the water supply to the Envelopa campus will be shut down from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The shutdown will affect the following dormitories:

  • Generála Svobody,
  • J. L. Fischera,
  • Bedřicha Václavka
  • 17 listopadu.
  • In the Šmeralova dormitory only cold water will be available.

Water supply shutdown will also affect the faculty buildings, namely:

  • 17. listopadu 12 (main faculty building)
  • 17. listopadu 50 (Geoinformatics building)
  • 17. listopadu 50a (Joint Laboratory of Optics)
  • Fort Science

The operation of the buildings will be restricted. In case of technical questions, please, contact filip.zlamal@upol.cz.

From 4 p.m. on 31 October until 10 a.m. on 1 November significant outages of Moodle may occur due to its upgrade.

Construction work

From 16 October to 10 November, construction work will be carried out on the grounds of the Faculty of Science in the Envelopa campus (17 listopadu 12) in order to connect the electric vehicle charging station. We apologize for the restrictions caused. More information in the attachment (in Czech).

Halloween meeting

The student association Sustainable Palacký is organizing a Halloween meeting on 31 October 2023 from 4 p.m. Venue - Václavka Community Garden.

From hills and tops of the Olomouc region exhibition

Already the fourth installment of the exhibition series On the Fence is on diplay until the end of November on the street U botanické zahrady, where the faculty's Botanical Garden is located. The autumn exhibition is designed as a photographic walk through the hills and mountains of the Olomouc Region, which can be seen on 40 photographs.
