ERC workshops for ERC Starting/Consolidator

The Technology Centre and the Expert Group announce the registration for the ERC Starting and ERC Consolidator preparatory workshops. The first round of workshops will take place this year online on 15-17 May 2024 in English.

Registration for workshops will start on 11 March 2024, but for the first time this year, applicants will be accepted on a 'first come, first served' basis. Therefore, early preparation of the required materials and early registration are essential. The deadline for online registration and submission of supporting materials is 14 April 2024. The number of participants is limited to 17 (plus 7 alternates) per ERC area. Registration will be closed when the capacity is reached (this may occur before 14 April 2023).

The application must be accompanied by the title of the project, its acronym and abstract, as well as the applicant's CV and "track record", all in the format and according to the ERC rules (see annexes).

The approval of the faculty management to submit the application must also be secured before the actual registration. For further information, please contact Ing. Tea Pokorna at tea.pokorna@upol.cz.

TA ČR – Transport 2030 Programme: announcement of preliminary parameters of the 2nd public tender

The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic together with the Ministry of Transport is informing about the preparation of the 2nd public tender in the programme to support applied research and innovation in the field of transport – TRANSPORT 2030. TA ČR – SIGMA Programme: Information on the upcoming 7th call for proposals – sub-objective 2, early researchers

The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic has published the thematic focus of the 7th public tender for support of applied research and innovation SIGMA – sub-objective 2, early researchers and balancing opportunities in applied research projects.

Four research topics have been determined for the given call:

  • Telemedicine
  • AI and sustainable mobility
  • Production technology and materials
  • Community energy and its management systems, small-scale energy storage

Neuron Prizes

Until 31 March 2024, you can nominate laureates for the prestigious Neuron Prizes, which honor the research of talented scientists as well as internationally renowned scientists. This year, the Neuron Foundation will award Neuron Prizes for Promising Scientists in seven fields, the Neuron Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Science and the Neuron Prize for Connecting Science and Business. Thanks to the generous contributions from patrons, the Neuron Prizes are associated with a personal financial bonus - 500,000 CZK for the Neuron Prize for Promising Scientists and 1,500,000 CZK for the Neuron Prize.

Nominations can be submitted by deans and rectors of public institutions, directors of academic institutes or representatives of the Czech Academy of Sciences and scientific institutes, members of the Scientific Council of the Neuron Foundation and laureates of previous years. Nominations can also be submitted by scientists, researchers, academics or research organisations.

International and Non-university Affairs

Preparation and reporting of mobilities

All students going on study stays and internships abroad must inform the international section of the Student Affairs Office of the Faculty of Science UP about their intention to go and the beginning and end of their trip. We also ask all lecturers, who intend to go abroad within the Erasmus+ programme, to contact the international section of the Student Affairs Office of the Faculty of Science first.

Information about foreign students who will come for an internship and about foreign experts who will come as part of Erasmus+ must be sent to the international office in advance by the department to which they are to come.

Records of foreign guests

If you have international guests visiting your department, please enter their information in the Portal. This may affect the amount of funding the faculty receives to some extent.

Instructions:

  • click on "All Applications" in your Portal
  • click on the "Guest Admission" tile
  • press the "+New" button and fill out the newly opened form.

Academic Senate

The regular meeting of the Academic Senate FS UP will take place on Wednesday, 7 February 2024 at 13:30 in the meeting room of the Dean's Office. Detailed information and materials are available on the senate website (in Czech).

Student Affairs

Fischer scholarship holder's seminar
The Vice-Dean for International Relations prof. Dušek, cordially invites you to the seminar for the holders of the Fischer scholarship, which our faculty awards to foreign PhD students. The event will be held on Tuesday, 6 February at 9:00 a.m. in the Big Conference Room, Dean's Office (room 6.014) on the 6th floor of the Faculty of Science. The attendance of the Fischer scholarship holders and their supervisors is requested. However, all other faculty employees and students are welcome too.

English courses

The Department of Foreign Languages offers English courses in the summer semester.

Registration for courses – summer semester 2023/2024

The registration for courses in the summer semester of the academic year 2023/2024 for all study programmes at the Faculty of Science takes place from 23 January to 19 February 2024. A detailed schedule is available, as usual, on the website.

State doctoral examination and dissertation defense

The application for your dissertation defense or the state doctoral examination has to be submitted at least 3 months in advance. Follow the requirements and deadlines listed on the website in the section for Doctoral Study.

Prospective foreign students

The English faculty website for prospective students has been updated. If you have a prospective PhD student in English who has already agreed on a topic with the department, you can refer him/her to this website for further information on the application process.

'Ma thèse en 180 secondes' Contest

The contest “Ma thèse en 180 secondes” allows French-speaking doctoral students to talk about their research work to a non-specialist audience. It is open to any French speaking PhD students enrolled in a Czech university for the current academic year, or those who have obtained their doctorate after August 2023.

The registrations are open until 19 February. The national round (for participants enrolled in the Czech Republic) is organized by Charles University, the association Gallica and the French Institute in Prague, and it will be held on 14 March 2024. The best candidates will be able to take part in the Central Europe finale in Budapest on June 6th. More information on this website.

Donate Blood with the Rector

As part of UP Academic Week, the annual Donate Blood with the Rector challenge will take place on 19 – 23 February 2024. This campaign aims to encourage and promote voluntary blood donation. During the week-long event, we are calling on all students and employees of the University to register in our system and come and donate their most precious asset – their blood. First-time donors are especially welcome! All UP donors can look forward to a small gift package from their alma mater this week. More information here.

AFO

Film screenings and top documentaries from around the world, lectures, discussions and meetings that visitors to Academia Film Olomouc will never forget! The main theme of the programme will be memory. This year, documentary film fans can look forward to ambitious trips into the future past, which will lead through prehistoric times and the era of dinosaurs to the time of artificial intelligence. The 59th edition of the AFO International Festival of Science Documentary Films will take place from 23 to 28 April 2024.

Ball of the UP Faculty of Science

Don't miss the Ball of the UP Faculty of Science and enjoy special moments with your loved ones, friends and colleagues. The Ball will take place on Friday, 22 March 2024 in the faculty premises. The opening ceremony of the Ball is scheduled for 8 p.m. (the building will be open from 7 p.m.).

Holy Mass

The opening student Mass for the students and employees of UP will take place on Wednesday 21 February at 19:00 in the Church of the Virgin Mary of the Snow. The Mass for the Faculty of Science will be held on 20 March 2024.
