Introductory word

Dear colleagues, 

on October 23, the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science approved the establishment of the faculty Ethics Committee (its constitution can be found here) and announced the election of its members. All members of the academic community can submit proposals for committee members. The proposal must include the consent of the proposed candidate. The term of office of the first representatives of individual fields was determined by lot as follows: Physics and Chemistry - 6 years, Earth Sciences and Biology and Ecology 4 years, Mathematics and Informatics 2 years. After the first replacement, the term of office of each member will be six years.

Please consider submitting proposals of suitable candidates for this position. The deadline for submitting proposals for Ethics Committee members is November 19, 2019 to the Chairman of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science (also by e-mail: tomas.opatrny@upol.cz). Election itself will then take place at the meeting of the Academic Senate on December 4.

Science and Research

Dean's Award 2019 to authors developing scientific field
The Dean of the Faculty of Science will appreciate authors and groups of authors of study and popular science texts, monographs and original scientific publications. The proposal may be submitted by an employee or student of the Faculty of Science through the head of the department in writing along with a copy of the publication by November 30, at the Department of Science and Research to Alena Jarošová (alena.jarosova@upol.cz).

Submitted publications must meet the following conditions:

• the proposed employee is an employee of the Faculty of Science with a minimum of 0.5 workload,

• the proposed worker is the first or corresponding author of the publication

• the proposed student studies full-time

• the scientific journal, where the original scientific publication is published, is in the 90th and above percentile according to Web Of Science

• the publication was published in print in 2019. Works published in 2018 may also be submitted, if they were not entered in the competition last year.

The application form and detailed information about the competition conditions can be found here. In the application it is necessary to specify the distribution of the prize among the individual co-authors, who by their signature on the application confirm the agreement with the division.

INTER-EXCELLENCE
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has announced a 3rd public tender for research, development and innovation of the INTER-EXCELLENCE program, within INTER-INFORM (LTI20) sub-program for submitting international cooperation projects in research and development. Please submit project proposals to the R&D department to Miriam Delongová (miriam.delongova@upol.cz) by December 4, 2019. More information available here.

International and outer University Information

Scholarships in Beijing
Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) offers the following scholarships for the academic year 2020-2021. For degree-seeking programs it provides the CSC (China Scholarship Council) Scholarship for 3 master and PhD candidates. It is a full scholarship for foreign students. See Attachment 1, Attachment 2, Atachment 3 for the details on the coverage and application deadlines.

For exchange programs, it offers the BIT Exchange Scholarship to 5 exchange students at all levels to study in BIT for one or two semesters for the academic year 2020-2021. The BIT Exchange Scholarship covers the tuition fee and accommodation on campus. See Attachment 4, Attachment 5 for details about these programs.

For BIT international summer program, there are four topics from 5th July to 1st Aug, 2020, includes Intelligent Vehicles and Electric Vehicles (Program I), Big Data Analysis (Program II), The Overview of 5G System - Key Technologies and Applications (Program III) and Chinese Language and Culture (Program IV). Students are welcomed to choose one of the programs according to their interests and academic background. See Attachment 6 for more information in this regard.

Foreign Postdoc Position Support
As a part of the project to support the sustainability of foreign postdocs, there is a possibility of co-financing their wage costs from the Institutional Plan UP for 2019-2020. Last week, an email on this issue was sent to the heads of all departments. If you are interested in supporting your postdoc, an application for each postdoc has to be sent by Monday, November 25, 12:00 a.m. at the latest. Applications will be accepted only in an electronic form at waleria.slowikova@upol.cz. Further questions send to the email address provided.

Scholarships in Hungary
For the academic year 2020-2021, Hungary offers 25 scholarships for 5-month study stays of Bachelor and Follow-up Master students, 12 scholarships for 1-2-week long research stays for university teachers and 12 scholarships for research stays for university teachers of 1 to 3 months. It also offers a total of 27 months of study stays for those interested in Doctoral studies of up to 9 months per student.

Those interested in summer courses of Hungarian among university students and teachers in 2020 are offered 12 places with the length of stay of 1 month.

Scholarships in Egypt
Egypt offers 4 scholarships for study stays of Doctoral students for 10 to 12 months and 2 scholarships for study visits for university teachers of a maximum of 10 days. It also offers study and lecture stays of a total of 18 months for university teachers and researchers for 3 to 5 months.The deadline for submitting applications is December 13, 2019 until 3:00 pm. Candidates shall deliver the required documents to the headquarters of the Academic Information Agency (House of International Cooperation, AIA, Na Poříčí 1035/4, 110 00 Prague 1) within the set deadline.

Scholarships in Northern Macedonia
Northern Macedonia offers a total of 10 months of study stays for Bachelor and Follow-up Master students for up to 2 months, as well as 10 months for Doctoral students for up to 2 months. It also offers 2 scholarship positions for study and lecture stays for university teachers and researchers for a maximum of 10 days.The deadline for submitting applications is December 13, 2019 until 3:00 pm. Candidates shall deliver the required documents to the headquarters of the Academic Information Agency (House of International Cooperation, AIA, Na Poříčí 1035/4, 110 00 Prague 1) within the set deadline.

Submitting documents for final thesis
You can find detailed instructions on how to enter data for the thesis at this link. A change has been made to the approval status - the student must change the approval status to "Student completed the thesis" and save it.

Matriculation
We ask first-year students who have not attended matriculation to come to the Study Department during office hours and sign the matriculation oath.

Graduation ceremony
Graduation ceremonies for bachelor and follow-up master's courses take place on November 8, in the auditorium of the Faculty of Science.

Graduation of Doctoral candidates
Graduation ceremonies for doctoral students will take place on December 4, 2019 in the auditorium of the Faculty of Education.

Joint Master Degree
The Department of Geoinformatics offers a new Joint Master Degree in cooperation with University of Salzburg, Austria and University of Bregagne Sud, France. The two-year study, which is covered by the scholarship, is focused on the Earth Observation and Geoinformatics methods in Salzburg in the first year. You can then follow the GeoDataScience in Bretagne or GeoVisualization in Olomouc.

UP Crowd
Student Club UP Crowd cordially invites you to several events in the first week of November. On Tuesday, November 5, 2019, a lecture by a linguist and a mathematical linguist doc. Karel Oliva on the topic "Taking over words" in the cycle Science Café Olomouc. The regular Thursday meeting on November 7, 2019 is intended for all members and those interested in science popularization (information about the place and time on the FB page of the association). On Friday, November 8, 2019, we will participate in Ostrava's lecture night (π night) in Ostrava-Poruba with our contribution and experiments. Last but not least, we would like to congratulate the President of UP Crowd to the Rector's Prize for Volunteer merits in the Science category.

Operation of the HR and Payroll Department before the end of the year

By Wednesday, December 11, 12:00, the following documents must be submitted to the HR and Payroll Department:

To the HR Department ( Veronika Caletková, Veronika Vašková, Bc. Markéta Říhová), please turn in:

  • proposals for changing job and wage classification 12/2019
  • applications for renewal of employment contracts ending this year
  • new Agreements to perform a job (DPP), Agreements on working activity (DPČ)

To the Payroll Department (Libuše Pěčková, Ivona Kristková), please turn in:

  • holiday requests, incapacity to work, family allowance support
  • proposals for the payment of extraordinary rewards
  • suggestions for one-off adjustments of personal evaluations
  • Requirements for meal vouchers and Unichecks +
  • timesheets for payment for DPP and DPČ payments for December 2019

We ask you for increased attention while entering data as no further inspection will be made.

In the case of an employee sickness or taking care of a family member after December 11, report the changes to the wage account as soon as possible, but no later than January 2 to 12:00. Print the attendance after the final check and closing of the attendance at payroll department, i.e. on Friday, January 3.

Applications for calculation of wage costs in projects should be sent to both payroll accountants via e-mail. The requirements will be processed and returned back for the eventual revision by December 17. Additional salary adjustments for projects will be possible until December 19 until 12:00.

HR and Payroll Department will be open to employees until December 20, after the New Year from January 2. If you do not need a personal consultation, and only want to submit the documents, we would greatly appreciate if you used the internal mail - mailbox 6 on the ground floor in the corridor behind the reception desk.

Tax returns will be signed by employees from January 13 according to the schedule that employees will receive by e-mail in Czech and English versions. The financial administration uses tax returns in the Czech language, for foreign employees there will be English a translation available for basic orientation only. Since it is not possible for HR and Payroll Department o arrange a personal consultation to sign a tax return in English, we will very much welcome if a foreign employee is accompanied by a Czech colleague from his workplace to arrange interpretation.

UP Busines Camp 2019
UP Science and Technology Park organizes a one-day conference called UP Business Camp 2019 for start-ups, businesses and entrepreneurs. This year the conference will be devoted to equal opportunities and that is why we decided to address the Student Support Center with specific needs, which provides our students with both technical and professional consulting services. So people with hearing impairments, for whom sign language interpreters will be prepared, can also come to feel the atmosphere and get inspired to start their own business. The program is divided into four blocks: Experienced Behind the Microphone, Take courage and start a business, Run business using Your Head, Prove what you can do in 2 minutes.

Round table
The topic of „Undergraduate Training of Science and Mathematics Teachers" will be discussed at the Round Table on Thursday, November 14, at 3.30 pm in the large meeting room on the 6th floor (room 6.014). The round table is intended for students (future teachers) and teachers of all fields of science at universities, secondary schools and secondary schools. The guest will be psychologist Mgr. Markéta Hlavsová with a lecture called Feedback or How I Influence Children. During the discussion, attention will be paid to feedback, on how teachers affect children, as well as on the first impression (how quickly it will be created, how long it takes to change it, what is at stake). At the end of the lecture there will be space for discussion and transfer of feedback to the reality of the school (testing, teaching, authority, bullying). Answering the questions of what to do when pupils do not cooperate, disturb, provoke.

Week of science and technology
Science and Technology Week of The Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic is the largest science festival in the Czech Republic. The Fort Science will also be involved in the event, which includes lectures, exhibitions, workplace events, documentary films, workshops, science cafes and many other activities. The festival is intended both for secondary school students, for whom we prepare lectures and guided tours in the morning, as well as for the general public, who are targeted by the afternoon and evening program. The nineteenth year with the subtitle "Science, Freedom, Responsibility" will take place from November 11 - 17, 2019. The main theme of weekdays will be global threats such as climate change, natural disasters and more. The weekend will be complemented by the theme of the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution.
