Introductory word

Dear colleagues,
we would like to invite you to a discussion  with the rector of Palacký University, prof. Jaroslav Miller, which will take place on Decemeber 9, 2019 from 2 p.m. in the Assembly Hall (room 2.001) of the Faculty of Science (17.listopadu street). The topic of the discussion will be the establishment of the Higher Education Institute (CATRIN). We will email you more information in due course.

Science and Research

Dear colleagues,
In this year's GACR grant competition, out of a total of 104 standard and 9 junior projects, in which Palacký University staff acted as investigators, there were 18 successful projects in the following categories:

16 standard projects (7 from Faculty of Science, 6 from Faculty of Arts, 1 from Medical Faculty, 1 from Faculty of Law and 1 from Faculty of Physical Culture

2 junior projects (1 from Faculty of Science and 1 from Medical Faculty).

Other projects were obtained by UP as co-researchers. On behalf of the faculty management, I would like to congratulate all successful applicants in the GACR competition, as well as in other competitions. My acknowledgments go to all colleagues who seek grant support.

SOLSTICE
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has launched a call for proposals under Joint Programming Initiative "Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe" (JPI Climate) called "SOLSTICE" - Societal Transformation in the Face of Climate Change. There is only one round. The deadline for submitting project proposals to Miriam Delong's at R&D department is January 30, 2020. A short project summary must be submitted electronically by January 9. Start-up grants and internships from the Experientia Foundation
The Experientia Foundation offers young scientists from the fields of organic, bioorganic or medicinal chemistry who have completed a one-year post-doctoral research internship abroad to apply for a start-up grant to establish their own research group with annual support of CZK 2 million. Applications can be submitted by March 15, 2020. More information about start-up grants here. KAPPA
The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR) in cooperation with the Research Council of Norway (RCN) has announced the first public tender in a Program for the Support of Applied Research, Experimental Development and Innovation KAPPA (Program) financed by the EEA and Norway Funds.

The tender is focused on international cooperation of entities from the Czech Republic with partners from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein (donor states) in applied research, and on interconnection of research organizations with the application sphere, especially with small and medium-sized enterprises. The tender is open to project proposals from all disciplines and topics of research, development and innovation. The tender specifically covers the topic of carbon dioxide capturing and storage.

Project proposals should be submitted in English through the ISTA information system. In each project, the main applicant must be from the Czech Republic and at least one other participant from Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein.

The competition period began on November 21, 2019 at 9:00 and ends on February 27, 2020. More information on the provider's website. The deadline for submitting project proposals at the Faculty of Science is set for February 26, 2020 by 2 pm.

Country for the Future
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has announced the first tender for the Country for the Future program. The call is open to small and medium-sized companies. However, the university can participate in the form of contract research, staff members may become members of research teams. The competition focuses on putting innovations into practice, including the acquisition of know-how, the necessary technologies and the certification of new products prior to the start of production or service provision. More information can be found here. The deadline for submitting proposals is January 8, 2020.

Environment for life
The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic announced the 2nd tender for the Environment for Life program, sub-program 3 - Long-term Environmental and Climate Perspectives. It is a project of long-term research cooperation based on assigned research topics for 6 - 6.5 years. The project consortium consists of a minimum of three candidates and will be a center of competence. Projects must focus on one of the 7 research topics in the field of the environment - Drought and climate change in a broader context, Water systems and water management in the Czech Republic in the conditions of climate change, Air and climate, Waste and circulation management, environmental security, Nature protection , landscapes and biodiversity, Rock environment and raw materials, Socioeconomic research. ERA-MIN 2 Call 2019
The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic launched the international call ERA-MIN 2 Call 2019. The call is aimed at supporting projects in the field of non-energy non-agricultural raw materials. The conditions for a Czech applicant in this call are based on the EPSILON program. Detailed information on the call: https://www.tacr.cz/en/homepage/. International and outer University Information

Internships in Japan
In cooperation with the Academy of Sciences, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, as every year, has announced a selection procedure for foreign internships. The program covers all areas of humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. Applicants who have received a doctoral degree no more than 6 years prior to April 1, 2020 (i.e. not earlier than April 2, 2014) may participate in the selection procedure. The length of stay is 12 to 24 months. The deadline for submitting applications on the Czech side is March 27, 2020. Details can be found here.

French Government scholarships
The French Embassy in the Czech Republic has opened the call for French Government scholarships applications. These scholarships are intended for PhD students of Czech universities who wish to achieve, in any field of studies, either a co-supervised PhD thesis (“cotutelle“) with a French university or a short stay for a period of one to three months in a French research laboratory. 

This year, the call should be open both ways, for French students coming to the Czech Republic as well. This information will be officially confirmed in December. The deadline for application is not set yet, but the call should close mid-February. For more information visit the website.

Academic Senate

The upcoming meeting of the Academic Senate of the Faculty will take place on Wednesday, December 4, 1:00 pm in the Large Board room of the Dean´s Office(6.014).

For students

Change of office hours
On December 12 the office hours at the Department of Study are only from 9:00 to 11:00 am. It will be closed in the afternoon. From December 23 to December 31the Study Department is closed.

Graduation of doctoral students
Graduation ceremonies for doctoral students will take place on December 4 in the auditorium of the Faculty of Education.

UP Crowd
Members of UP Crowd student association invite all science enthusiasts to a regular Thursday meeting, which will take place on December 5 at 7:00 pm at "U Magora" pub. On Tuesday, December 10, there is a lecture by the linguist and mathematical linguist Karel Oliva - About Taking Words. From 5:30, the Science Café Olomouc team will be looking forward to you at the Scout Institute (seat reservation required - see FB event). The club has also made it to the final of the University Quiz! Come cheer for us on Monday, December 2, 2019.

Faculty Operation

Operation of the registry before the end of the year
On December 12 registry will be open from9:00 to 11:00 at Envelopa and from 10:00 to 11:00 in Holice. Outgoing mailbox will be collected by 11:00.

On December 23 the mail room will be open from 9:00 to 10:00 at Envelopa and from 10:30 to 11:30 in Holice. Mailboxes with both ordinary and registered mail are last selected at 11:45 in Envelope and 11:15 in Holice. Mail delivered after this deadline will not be sent until January 2, 2020.

Operation of the faculty before the end of the year
The main building (Envelopa) and the buildings in the Holice complex will be closed from December 24, 2019 to January 1, 2020. The building will be guarded by an external guard service. Report any malfunctions and defects to its employees, who will then forward the information to the Emergency Building Maintenance Service.

The VLD building - 17. listopadu 50 and the SLO building - 17. listopadu 50a will be closed from December 23, 2019 to January 1, 2020. During this period, entry will only be allowed with employee cards.

Operation of the HR and Payroll Department before the end of the year

By Wednesday, December 11, 12:00, the following documents must be submitted to the HR and Payroll Department:

To the HR Department ( Veronika Caletková, Veronika Vašková, Bc. Markéta Říhová), please turn in:

  • proposals for changing job and wage classification 12/2019
  • applications for renewal of employment contracts ending this year
  • new Agreements to perform a job (DPP), Agreements on working activity (DPČ)

To the Payroll Department (Libuše Pěčková, Ivona Kristková), please turn in:

  • holiday requests, incapacity to work, family allowance support
  • proposals for the payment of extraordinary rewards
  • suggestions for one-off adjustments of personal evaluations
  • Requirements for meal vouchers and Unichecks +
  • timesheets for payment for DPP and DPČ payments for December 2019

We ask you for increased attention while entering data as no further inspection will be made.

In the case of an employee sickness or taking care of a family member after December 11, report the changes to the wage account as soon as possible, but no later than January 2 to 12:00. Print the attendance after the final check and closing of the attendance at payroll department, i.e. on Friday, January 3.

Applications for calculation of wage costs in projects should be sent to both payroll accountants via e-mail. The requirements will be processed and returned back for the eventual revision by December 17. Additional salary adjustments for projects will be possible until December 19 until 12:00.

HR and Payroll Department will be open to employees until December 20, after the New Year fromJanuary 2. If you do not need a personal consultation, and only want to submit the documents, we would greatly appreciate if you used the internal mail - mailbox 6 on the ground floor in the corridor behind the reception desk.

Tax returns will be signed by employees from January 13 according to the schedule that employees will receive by e-mail in Czech and English versions. The financial administration uses tax returns in the Czech language, for foreign employees there will be English a translation available for basic orientation only. Since it is not possible for HR and Payroll Department o arrange a personal consultation to sign a tax return in English, we will very much welcome if a foreign employee is accompanied by a Czech colleague from his workplace to arrange interpretation.

Undrawn funds at the end of the year for ongoing projects of targeted support of R&D (GA ČR, TA ČR ost. SR) For projects where the decisions or contracts do not stipulate the accounting of the project at the end of the multiannual grant, the unused funds beyond the scope of UP Fund will be returned to the provider also within the accounting deadline of 2019. For projects, where it is clearly stated in the decisions or contracts that the project will be accounted for at the end of the project implementation and the unused funds beyond the scope of the UP Fund can be transferred to the next period, these funds will not be returned to the provider. It is therefore necessary to approach projects individually according to contracts and contract documents.

Miscellaneous

Concert of UP orchestra
A concert of the orchestra of the Palacký University  Olomouc will take place on December 9, at 6pm in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Education. Its members are students from all faculties of Palacký University. Visitors to the concert can enjoy film music in the form of well-known tunes such as Pirates of the Caribbean, How to Train Your Dragon or Game of Thrones. The concert is intended for the staff of the Faculty of Education as well as for the general public. Admission to the concert is free of charge, but due to capacity reasons it is necessary to register at this link. After registration, no confirmation is required to enter the concert. Once the capacity of the concert is full, the entry form will be closed. During the concert, it will be possible to donate money to the civic association Šance Olomouc, which focuses on cancer treatment of children and facilitates their return to normal life.

Christmas collection for „Klokánek“
Under the auspices of Dean Martin Kubala, the Faculty of Science organizes a Christmas collection for children from Klokánek, Olomouc, a facility of the Children in Need Fund, from November 25 to December 13. You can donate toys, party games, school and art supplies, skin care products for older girls and boys, public transport tickets worth 7 and 14 CZK, washing gels and dishwasher tablets or diapers size 4 for the youngest. You can now also contribute any amount of money to a transparent Klokánek account in Olomouc: 2501674563/2010. Gifts for children who find themselves in a difficult life situation can be handed over at the reception desk on the ground floor of the main building of the faculty (door no. 1.001) or in Holice at the Department of Botany (2.08).

On Friday, December 13, 2019, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Martin Kubala will personally hand over a collection of gifts to Mrs. Šárka Kupčáková, head of Klokánek in Olomouc.
