Dear colleagues, dear students,

I would like to invite you to the Debate with the Dean of the Faculty of Science, which will take place in the auditorium at the Faculty of Science (17.listopadu 12, 2^nd floor, room number 2.001) on Wednesday, 30^th January, at 2:00 p.m. Employees and students may discuss the Vision of Future Development of the Faculty. The originally announced date of 24^th January was cancelled.

Simultaneous interpretation into English will be provided to all international participants. Interpreting device can be picked up at the entrance to the auditorium.

The event will be recorded and broadcast online. With respect to the Protection of personal data act, the participants agree with the recording and online broadcast by being present at the event. Anybody not present at the event, may watch the moderated discussion online at http://stream.upol.cz/. The online broadcast is intended for those who do not agree with the recording and broadcasting, and for those who cannot take part in the event for any reason.

English language courses for employees and PhD students
The Department of Foreign Languages at the Faculty of Science, Palacky University offers English courses for the employees and PhD students of the Faculty of Science in the summer semester. The complete list of courses is available in Attachement.

Registering subjects for Summer semester 2018/2019
Registration of courses for the summer semester of academic year 2018/2019 for Bachelor's, Follow-up Master's and Doctoral study programs for students of the Faculty of Science takes place from January 15 to February 17, 2019. Final state examinations and defenses of Bachelor and Master Theses
We ask students who want to take the Final state examination or defend their final theses in January / February 2019 and they do not have a closed year to come to the study department at least three weeks before the exam / defense deadline, while registering for a specific date in STAG.

Scholarship applications
You must submit applications for regular scholarships until the end of the academic year, i.e. August 2019, not until December 2019. This is due to the fact that STAG works with academic years, not calendar ones; some students finish their studies during the application process; the amounts of scholarships change etc. For September 2019, submit new requests.

Training courses
The Center of Support for Students with Special Needs has announced a list of optional professional courses within the training module "Further Education of UP Staff" which are completely free of charge for UP employees.

After signing up for individual courses, please wait for an e-mail of confirmation. The capacity of the individual courses is limited by the lecturers of individual courses.

ERASMUS PROGRAM 2019/2020
The Faculty of Science UP announces a selection procedure for placing students in ERASMUS + program for academic year 2019/2020. More information: Dana Gronychová, dana.gronychova@upol.cz.

Scholarships in China
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, we would like to inform you that within the 16 + 1 initiative the Chinese Government offers Czech students to study in bachelor, master and doctoral programs in the PRC starting with academic year 2019/2020 as well as study or research internships in the PRC for one to two semesters in academic year 2019/2020.

In case you are interested, please deliver the required documents to the Department of International Relations of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Deadline for submitting applications is February 15, 2019, until 3:00 pm. Detailed information on the selection process was published on the Academic Information Agency (AIA) website: https://www.dzs.cz/en/.

Support of developing foreign cooperation

It is very likely that in 2019 the Foreign department of UP Rectorate will again provide our Faculty with additional resources for the development of new foreign collaboration. As in last year, only travel costs of Faculty staff or short-term visits of foreign professors, related to creation of new cooperation can be paid from these resources (but no personal expenses can be paid from these funds). If you are planning a trip or a visit that meets the above definition, you can pre-apply for (partial) financial support by Waleria Slowikova (waleria.slowikova@upol.cz). Vice-Dean for International Affairs, prof. Dušek, will decide on granting the support with regard to the degree of completion of the cooperation, with an effort to evenly cover the fields and, of course, with regard to the available financial means. Please take into account that the funds will be limited (the exact amount is not yet known) and there is no legal claim to this subsidy.

The upcoming meeting of the Faculty Senate will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at 10:00 pm in the Dean's Large Meeting Room (6.014).

A new decree on the use of private vehicles for business trips
The Decree issued in January informs on what compensation the employee is entitled to, when using a private vehicle on a business trip (foreign and domestic). The decree stipulates that an employee can use a vehicle fueled by: petrol 95, petrol 98 and diesel.

Given the fact that the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs does not provide compensation for vehicles with different propulsion (electric vehicle, gas or petrol 91), it cannot be calculated.

Notices for employees and students
Due to heavy frosts, we ask all employees and students entering and exiting the main building of the Faculty to try to minimize their opening time when using any entrance door. In particular, it involves situations where something is moved through the door, goods are being transported, etc. It causes a rapid decrease of the temperature on the ground floor.

The Ball of the Faculty of Science
Let us invite you to the Ball of the Faculty of Science, which will take place on Saturday, February 16 at 7 pm in Clarion Congress Hotel Olomouc. Cloakroom, refreshments and access to the premises will be available from 6:30 pm. The festive evening will be hosted by Jan Smetana, sports commentator and reporter of Czech Television. Music will be played by Jamr's and traditional ExStres. Participants of the Ball may look forward to a rich raffle. Redeemable tickets can be purchased in the main building of the faculty in the Department of External and Internal Affairs, at the Fortress of Knowledge and at UPoint on Horní Náměstí. Detailed sales times are available here. Ticket prices range from CZK 250 to CZK 370, for students and other groups at a lower rate of CZK 350. Weekend full of Love in the Stronghold of Knowledge
On the 16th and 17th February, the Stronghold of Knowledge prepared a program full of love for all age categories. Among other things, you can participate in the Love program called gravity. You will learn about the strength by which objects of the Solar System are affecting each other and its consequences. You can also solve a sophisticated brain teaser or find out if you and your partner are a good match. You can find more details here.

Application facilitating food ordering
Management of dormitories and cafeterias presents you with a novelty that will make it easier for you to order food in cellphone applications and WebKredit. As of January 21, 2019, you just have to enter the same username and password as to the UP Portal. Outside boarders are not affected by the change. Their password is still generated by the staff at registers. For more information on orders, please visit SKM UP.

Fischer scholarship holder's presentation
Vice-Dean for International Relations prof. Dušek, cordially invites you to the seminar for Fischer scholars. The event will be held on Wednesday, February 13^th at 8:30 a.m. in the Big Conference Room, Dean's Office (room 6.014) on the 6^th floor of the Faculty of Science. The attendance of the Fischer scholarship holders and their supervisors is requested, however, all the other faculty employees and students are welcome too.
