TA CR - Partnership for biodiversity Call 2025

The call, announced by the Biodiversa+ strategic network, focuses on research for nature restoration with the aim of creating connected and functional ecosystems and habitats. Long-term sustainability and future-proofing are key at all levels, from local to global. The call covers biodiversity restoration in all ecosystems worldwide and supports holistic, systemic, and integrated approaches. Projects can focus on a wide range of aspects, such as different scales and indicators, or ecological, socioeconomic, and sociocultural dimensions. Pre-proposals can be submitted by 7 November 2025, at 12:00. Faculty deadline: 31 October 2025. More information is available on the provider's website (in Czech).

TA CR - QuantERA III Call 2025

The international QuantERA III Call 2025 focused on quantum technology research is open. The deadline for project proposals is on 5 December 2025, 17:00.

TA CR - Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) Call 2025

The international call of the European partnership Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) Call 2025 is open from 1. 9. 2025. The call focuses on supporting international research projects that aim to help cities transition to a more sustainable economy and functioning. Pre-proposals can be submitted until 17 November 2025, at 13:00. Faculty deadline: November 10, 2025.

Czech applicants can submit projects in the following thematic areas and topics:

Positive Energy Districts Pathway (PED):

  • Ensuring positive socio-economic impact: PEDs in local economies and energy markets
  • PEDs in urban heating and cooling strategies

15-Minutes City Pathway (15mC):

  • Next steps for multimodal urban mobility, building on the travel experience
  • Mobility policymaking in context of radical contestation

Werner von Siemens Award

Publishing your research is essential in today’s academic world – and those who don’t publish almost don’t exist. Students, teachers, and researchers in technical, natural science, and medical fields can apply for the Werner von Siemens Award (in Czech). Nominate yourself or someone else by 30 November. Nominators of winners receive 10,000 CZK, and the total prize pool is 1,000,000 CZK. Apply or nominate here. (in Czech)

International and Non-university Affairs

Mandatory reporting of mobilities

Every mobility, regardless of the source of funding and regardless of whether the student will receive credits for that, must be reported at least one month before its start to Mgr. Marie Raková at marie.rakova@upol.cz from the International section of the Student Affairs Office. Outgoing mobilities are primarily reported by students, incoming mobilities by the department. Details can be found on the faculty website.

Records of foreign guests

It is the responsibility of the department to register foreign guests. If you have international guests visiting your department, enter their information in the Portal as follows:

  • click on "All Applications" in your Portal
  • click on the "Guest Admission" tile
  • press the "+New" button and fill out the newly opened form.

This procedure does not apply to student internships - these are reported as incoming mobility.

Mobility scholarship

A student who goes on any mobility abroad for 30 days or more (study stay, research internship, work placement, summer school, etc.), can apply for a scholarship of CZK 5,000 for each mobility. The request must be submitted before departure. Details here.

Fulbright scholarships for students, researchers, and lecturers to visit the USA for the 2026/2027 Academic Year

Applications for the 2026/2027 academic year are now open for all of the programs listed below:

The Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship is intended for study or research at the Master's or Ph.D. level in the United States for all fields except clinical medicine and MBA and LLM programs. You can apply for either the full program or a research stay of 4-9 months. There are two application deadlines (1 September for degree only and 1 February for research projects), and you must arrange for an appropriate invitation letter from the USA. The condition is a completed bachelor's degree by the deadline and good knowledge of English. Details here.

Fulbright scholarship for researchers and lecturers from the Czech Republic in all fields except clinical medicine

The requirements are a Ph.D. degree, previous successful research and/or teaching activity, good knowledge of English, a quality research project and an invitation from the USA. The regular application deadline is 1 November. The scholarship is awarded for a period of three to ten months, depending on the needs of the applicant and the project. Details here.

The Fulbright Scholarship for professionals from the Czech Republic is intended for stays of professional experts (for 3 to 10 months) intended for research, study and gaining further professional experience primarily in the following fields (not exclusively): the arts (including restoration and curatorial work), museum and gallery management, art collection management, architecture, urban planning, public administration and politics, creative writing, journalism. The stays are intended for experts in disciplines where the final degree of education is usually not a Ph.D. and where it is replaced by documented results of practical professional activity (artistic works, exhibitions, management of studios at art-type universities, publication activities in periodicals, work in public administration with long-term excellent results, etc.). The basic qualification requirements are a completed education of at least MA (Mgr.) and 7 years of professional experience with excellent results in the field in which the applicant is applying for the scholarship, at the time of the program deadline. The regular application deadline is 1 November 2025 for the following academic year. The requirements and selection process are identical to the program for lecturers and scientists. The scholarship is provided for a period of three to ten months, depending on the applicant's needs. More information here.

Fulbright-Masaryk scholarship for those representatives of the academic community in the Czech Republic who, in addition to their narrow professional focus, are also active in academic and public life (in the academic senate, in a non-profit organization, in local government, etc.). The scholarship for all fields (except clinical medicine) is awarded in three categories. They can be found on this website.

The Fulbright-Schuman scholarship is a European-American program for EU citizens (Ph.D. students, Ph.D. holders and education experts, including university administrators) to conduct research on EU issues and US-EU transatlantic relations. The program is administered by the Fulbright Commission in Belgium. Details, including application deadlines, can be found here.

Scholarship in Bavaria

Applications are currently being accepted for scholarships for a one-year study stay in Bavaria, with the possibility of extension to a maximum of 3 years. The scholarship is intended to finance follow-up master's or doctoral studies at a Bavarian public university. The scholarship can also be awarded for a one-year study stay in Bavaria as part of doctoral studies at a Czech public university.

EMBL PhD Symposium

The 27th EMBL PhD Symposium is scheduled to take place from 25 to 27 November 2025, bringing together early career researchers and leading scientists for keynote lectures, panel discussions, and networking at EMBL Heidelberg (also available virtually). The event promotes scientific dialogue and exchange across the life sciences. Full details and registration information are available at this link.

Merill Program 2026-2027

The RUP Office for Mobility announces a selection procedure for semester study stays at partner schools in the USA in the 2026/2027 academic year. Interested students (except for students of the Faculty of Medicine) can contact Mgr. Zuzana Hamdanieh at zuzana.hamdanieh@upol.cz from the RUP Office for Mobility. Applications with attachments in English (motivation essay, CV, overview of academic results, recommendation) can be submitted in person or sent by email or post to the address (Vodární 6, 779 00 Olomouc) no later than Monday, 8 December 2025.

Election of the Dean

The FS UP Academic Senate will elect a candidate for the Dean of the faculty for the upcoming term at its meeting on 5 November 2025. In connection with this election, a debate between the candidates running for the position of the Dean will take place on 29 October at 13:00 in the faculty auditorium.

The management of the FS UP Academic Senate cordially invites all employees and students to this important event, during which it will be possible to meet both candidates and learn about their visions for the future, as well as ask them questions. In order to allow the widest possible range of members of the academic community to participate in the debate, the Dean has declared the afternoon of 29 October a Dean's day off.

UP Rector’s Award

Every year, the Rector of Palacký University grants several awards. Currently, UP students can submit their achievements by 14 November in two Rector’s Award categories (in Czech): The Rector’s Award for the best bachelor’s and master’s theses and sports performances, The Rector’s Award for the best final theses focused on sustainability. Nominations are also still open for the Rector’s Honourable Mention for Ph.D. students for a scholarly article (in Czech). A new award for the popularization of science and communication with the public has also been announced. The deadline for submissions is 30 November.

Start your scientific career abroad with the Experientia Foundation

Would you like to start your career in a prestigious laboratory anywhere in the world and work on your own project alongside leading chemists? The Experientia Foundation is now accepting applications for scholarships for international internships for young scientists under the age of 35 who have completed or are about to complete their PhD studies and have their own original project in the field of organic, bioorganic, or medicinal chemistry. Be inspired by the stories of successful scholarship recipients who have fulfilled their scientific dreams with us and traveled to places such as the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Japan, the Weizmann Institute in Israel, or Yale University in the USA. Start a research group with a start-up grant of CZK 9 million

The Experientia Foundation announces another year of competition for a three-year start-up grant for young scientists in the field of organic, bioorganic, or medicinal chemistry, now worth CZK 9 million. Research groups supported by the Experientia Foundation have already been established at the Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague, the University of Chemistry and Technology, the Faculty of Science of Palacký University in Olomouc, and the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University in Brno. If you have completed your PhD within the last seven years and have at least one year of experience abroad, send us your project to compete for the opportunity to establish your own research group. This year, the Experientia Foundation is increasing its grant by CZK 200,000 per year, which means that your research group will receive CZK 2.2 million in support each year. You will receive an additional CZK 800,000 per year from your host institution. The deadline for applications is 15 March 2026. More information can be found on the website.

Courses, Workshops and Webinars

The National Library of Technology (NTK) offers courses, workshops, and webinars in English on advanced searching, citing, and communicating about your research. If you are interested, fill in the registration form for each webinar you wish to attend. The instructions for connecting to the given webinar will be sent by email. Materials from previous webinars are freely available. Webinars are free of charge and open for everyone (i.e. NTK registration is not required). Miscellaneous

Language courses

There are still places available in the new German course for intermediate level employees and doctoral students (see the complete course offer). The course takes place on Thursdays from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM in classroom LP 1.030 under the leadership of Mgr. Vladimír Severa. You can contact him by e-mail: vladimir.severa@upol.cz.

Dermatological examination for employees

In cooperation with MAPO care s.r.o., the Faculty of Science offers its employees the opportunity to undergo a dermatological examination, which will take place on 19 November from 8:00 to 12:00 in the small meeting room of the Dean's Office (6th floor of the main building, 17. listopadu 12).

It is necessary to make an appointment for the examination via the reservation system.

GeoGuessr

The EGEA association is looking for a new champion in the GeoGuessr game! It involves appearing in Google StreetView at a random location on the planet. Your task is to figure out where you are based on what you see. The winner is the person who guesses closest to the actual location. You can compete in teams of three on 19 November from 18:00 at the Faculty of Science (17. listopadu 12, classroom 5.007). For more information and registration, visit olomouc@egea.eu.
