New operator of the bistro on the faculty ground floor will provide a wider range of refreshments
Students and staff in the main faculty building may look forward to new assortment in the bistro on the ground floor in the new academic year.  The Faculty has terminated its cooperation with current tenant; UP Accommodation and Dining will provide the service from September. However, it will remain closed during summer months due to necessary preparations as well as the Spaghetti bistro on the 6th floor.

Accommodation and Dining management is going to open the bistro on September 1, opening hours have been a subject to negotiation. Customers, however, will certainly record larger variety of food. "We have to adapt to the existing conditions and respect certain limitations. But we can benefit from a great experience we have acquired running other snack bars and take advantage of the nearby faculty canteen as well. Our menu will include vegetable salads, which our very popular among our customers, fresh fruit salads; we will prepare yoghurt with fruits and homemade muesli, variety of soups and our boarders will be able to order a pizza that we bake in our canteen, "said Josef Suchánek, the director of Accommodation and Dinning. Various pastries from local suppliers, hamburgers, toasts, baguettes as well as coffee, tea, non-alcoholic drinks and sweets will complement the menu. Customers will be able to pay using ISIC and employee cards just as they do in the canteen.

"We believe it is a step in the right direction. We have chosen Accommodation and Dining Management because it has an extensive experience and as the university facility it is able to cope with customer fluctuations, depending on the academic year. We expect the new operator to ensure a wider range of refreshment that will desirably complement the offer of the spaghetti bistro on the sixth floor, "said Jan Zimova, the Secretary.

Operation of the faculty canteens will be limited during holidays. The Envelopa canteen will be out of operation from July 1 to 14. However, faculty staff may use the Rectorat canteen services. Small refreshment will also be available at receptions of the dormitories. The Holice canteen will be closed from July 24 to August 11.

Science and Research

  • České hlavičky - contest for talented high school students
    If you work with talented Czech high school students whose work deserves appreciation and recognition, you may nominate them to participate in the competition for two more weeks. A professional jury composed of leading Czech scientists will select winners in five different categories including Natural Science, Economics, Computer Science, Practical Projects, Inventions or Technology and Innovation. This contest is once again a part of the EXCELLENCE Program announced by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The program is designed to support talented students and teachers who provide them with favorable conditions for their future development. Applications shall be submitted by June 30.   • Academia Student Award
    Supervisors of Master´s thesis or heads of departments may nominate scientific work of their students and graduates for the 6. annual competition in the fields of Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences or Physical Sciences by October 31. Academia Publishing will issue the winning work in book form. For further information please write an email on bohmova@academia.cz.

  • Personal changes at Department of Study
    As of July 1, Mrs. Jana Camfrlová, email: jana.camfrlova@upol.cz, will alternate Mrs. Ludmila Mozgová and will be in charge of the following study programs: Ecology and Environmental Protection, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Information about the registration into higher grades of study programs
    Students must complete their study obligations by September 4 in order to register into higher grades of study programs or to apply for study extension. However, they shall not submit their credit list and registration list A this time. All study results must be written and confirmed in their credit book and also recorded in Stag system by the same date. It is no longer possible to take any exams or make any records to Stag after the deadline.
  • Study extension
    Students of the second and third year of Bachelor study programs and students of the second year of Master study programs who will not conclude their studies by September 4 before their state final examination or the defense of their thesis, must apply for study extension by this date.
  • Graduation Ceremony
    We kindly ask students who wish to participate in graduation ceremonies in June to confirm their presence by writing an email to the relevant employee of Department of Study. Fee payment instructions are available on the website of the Faculty, were also graduation schedule has been posted.
  • Doctoral study program student evaluation
    We kindly request students of Doctoral Study Programs to deliver their student evaluation for past academic year to the Study Department of the Faculty of Science by June 30. It must include the signature of the student and statement of his/her supervisor that recommends/doesn´t recommend proceeding to the next year.
    Students of the fourth and higher years shall also apply for study extension. The application, which is available here, must again include statement and signature of the supervisor.
  • Curriculum for the academic year 2017/2018 is available on the website of the faculty. 

International and outer University Information

  • Summer school of statistical methods
    Students of Doctoral study programs or academic staff can participate in summer school where they can learn easier ways to work with data either for their research, evaluation of experiments, disertation theses or even for teaching statistics.   • Mexican Embassy in the Czech Republic offers three Mexican government scholarship positions for the Summer course of Mexican language and culture 2017, applications shall be submitted by June 21, 5:00 p.m. to the Mexican Embassy in the Czech Republic.  Further information is available here

Faculty Operation

  • As of September 1, 2017 Supplement no. 1 of the Dean´s Directive no. A-17/9-SD implementing certain provisions of the Scholarship Rules will come into effect. In accordance with this regulation the merit scholarship of the Faculty of Science has been increased.
  • Economic Department operation during July and August
    The faculty cash desk will be closed due to vacation from July 18 to July 31 except July 20 and 26

    We kindly request our employees to report and collect foreign exchanges for their summer business trips in the office of Mrs. Hoffmanová by June 30 due to vacation of Rectorate cash desk and the faculty staff.
  • As of September 1, the University will increase the allowance towards employees' meal in University canteens by CZK 8 per a meal. This step will balance current difference in contributions to meal vouchers and canteen meals at the Faculty of Science. The price of the main meal in the canteen for the staff will compound of the ingredients price + VAT only and will decrease by CZK 9. Employer's contribution (department cost) will increase from CZK 38 to CZK 46, moving the value of the contribution closer to the merit of meal vouchers subsidy which is 55% of its nominal value.
  • English language courses for employees and PhD students
    Department of Foreign Languages at the Faculty of Science offers English courses for employees and PhD students of the Faculty of Science in the winter semester 2017/18. The complete list of courses is available here.
  • Information about current construction works and large investment projects planned is available at the new website, which has been created as an outcome of cooperation of Department of Technical Support, the Building Maintenance and Department of Internal and External Relations. The website content will refer to any limitations that may be associated with construction activities. Posted news will bring up-to-date information about construction progress, operational issues as well as minor renovations.
