Introductory word
Dear colleagues, dear students,
the end of the year is upon us again which make many of us balance and review past 12 months. I am very glad that our Faculty has had a successful year. The interest of the applicants has remained stable despite the decrease in secondary school graduates. We have reduced the number of students who did not really want to study, our undergraduate students have achieved success both in national and international competitions and conferences. While there is still room for improvement, a lot of our students show interest in their Faculty as demonstrated by their participation in the Cherish Our Faculty competition. The Faculty has also done well financially, especially thanks to the activities in the field of science and research, and again we have been very successful with applications for grant support. In the following years, grant projects to support teaching and learning environment by a total value of over CZK 400 million will continue
Advent time brings also the best opportunity to think of our fellowmen. Therefore, I am happy that we have had a chance to meet seniors of our Faculty again and thank them for their patronage and loyalty. The Faculty has also organized a Christmas collection for children from Klokánek institutes in Olomouc and Dlouhá Loučka, and I am very pleased to note, that you have been very generous again. Children will find puzzles, building blocks, wooden and soft toys, books and free tickets to the Stronghold of Knowledge as well as practical things, such as durable food, clothing with their favorite characters, warm winter boots, slippers, hygiene and school supplies. A special thanks goes to the main organizer Mrs. Martina Oulehlová as well as to all who have contributed.

Partial and final reports of Grant Agency of the Czech Republic (GA CR)
GACR partial and final reports completed in GRIS application shall be submitted electronically to Miss Lenka Harendarčíková at Department of Science and Research by the following deadlines:
- partial reports - by 10:00 a.m. January 11
- final reports - by January 26

TACR - THÉTA
The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic has announced a public call to support research, development and innovation projects in the field of energetics focused on research in the public interest, new technologies and system elements with high potential for fast implementation in practice as well as projects aimed at supporting long-term technological perspectives in energetics. Project proposals with all required documentation shall be submitted in the form requested at lenka.harendarcikova@upol.cz by 10:00 a.m. January 4.
For Students
Personal changes at Department of Study
As of January 2, Mrs. Hana Štefanová will take over Pavlína Langerová´s duties at Department of Study. Until then please address the following ladies with your issues:

Department of Study reminds students who wish to take their state final exam or defend their final thesis in January or February of the obligation to conclude their studies at least three weeks before the date of their state final examination or the defense. You may register to the certain date via STAG.
Doctoral study
We kindly request students of Doctoral study programs who wish to make any major changes regarding their studies (discontinuing their studies, changing a supervisor or a form of study) to first register their application at the Faculty registry and keep a copy of the document.
Students who wish to terminate their studies at their own request shall do so by the 25th day of the month due to scholarship payment administration procedure deadline.
Department of Study will be closed from December 22 to January 1.
Academic Senate
The Faculty Senate announced the new Dean´s election at its meeting in December. Members of the academic community of the Faculty of Science submit proposals for appointment of the Dean of the faculty by Thursday, December 21. The list of candidates will be posted on the Faculty website on January 3, after the election committee receives consent/opposition of persons proposed. Candidates for the post of the Dean will present their visions to the academic community members' assembly in the Faculty auditorium on Wednesday, January 10. Senators will elect the candidate on January 17. Members of the electoral committee remain unchanged; they are senators Tomáš Fürst, Marek Jukl and Jakub Žák. Personal changes at the Dean´s office
As of January 1, Mrs. Silvie Polánková, email: silvie.polankova@upol.cz, tel: 4009, will alternate Mrs. Věra Netuková at the position of Dean´s assistant. We would like to thank Mrs. Netuková for her hard work, positive energy and dedication and wish her the best in the next chapter of her life. Mrs. Vladimíra Gužiaková, email: vladimira.guziakova@upo.cz, tel: 4021, will substitute Mrs. Polánková at the position of the Faculty Secretary´s assistant.
The Faculty website in English
Department of External and Internal Relations has been working intensively to create an English version of the Faculty website since April. The Faculty management has planned to run the full version in February 2018, however you may already browse the test version of the website today. Developers will appreciate your suggestions and comments. Please address your feedback to the Head of the department Mgr. Dagmar Petrželová, email: dagmar.petrzelova@upol.cz.

Miscellaneous
As of January 2018, Department of External and Internal Relations will publish the Newsletter of the Faculty of Science. It will be released biweekly on Mondays. The first issue in the year 2018 will be released on January 22.
