Dear colleagues and students,

Dean of the Faculty of Science Martin Kubala has announced a competition for the best design of New Year's card. The competition must be the author's own design. It may be painted, drawn, modeled, or otherwise artistically created. However, it must be transferable to electronic form for the purpose of printing. Designs must also be in accordance with UP visual style and include UP visual elements. The best designer receives financial compensation of CZK 3,000 to 5,000 and a 3-day voucher for two people at the Faculty´s recreation facility in Karlov. Please send the designs by November 13, 23:59 ideally in electronic form to the following e-mail address: magdalena.ondrusakova@upol.cz, by post or bring it to Magdaléna Ondrušáková after previous arrangement.

Science and Research

THÉTA
Technological Agency of the Czech Republic (TACR) has announced second public competition in research and experimental development in THETA program to support applied research, experimental development and innovations. Technologická agentura České republiky (TA ČR) vyhlásila druhou veřejnou soutěž ve výzkumu a experimentálním vývoji pro Program na podporu aplikovaného výzkumu, experimentálního vývoje a inovací THÉTA. Deadline for submitting proposals is November 23, more information can be found here.

Horizon
The European Commission has announced a new round of Twinning challenges within Horizon 2020 (Call identifier WIDESPREAD-03-2018). You can find detailed information about the call here. Proposals can be submitted by November 15, 2018. It is a very interesting opportunity to get involved in Horizon 2020 projects and to get the resources to support international cooperation with leading foreign scientific workplaces.There will be presentations from the call seminar available at TC AV CR web site in the near future. In case you are interested, it is possible to arrange a consultation with staff of the Technology Center of the Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic.

INTER-ACTION
Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has announced a public competition in Research, Development and Innovation within INTER-EXCELLENCE program, INTER-ACTION subprogram for applying project proposals of Czech-Chinese international cooperation in research and development (VES19CHINA). Deadline for submitting proposals is December 18, 2018; more information can be found here.

FRUP and IGA UP
We would like to point out that it is necessary to audit financial resources at current competition call and draw money by the end of the year. At IGA projects please focus on salaries - 60% or more must be paid out to Ph.D. students, the Ministry of Education checks the 60%:40% ratio of drawdown of money.

For Students

Matriculation
We ask first year students who have not been present at matriculation to come during office hours to the Study department and sign their matriculation promise.

Graduation ceremonies
We ask students who graduated between August and September 2018 and want to take part in November graduation ceremonies to inform their study referent by email. For information on how to pay the fee, visit the following website www.prf.upol.cz/pl/studenti/dulezite-terminy/, where you can find the exact schedule of ceremonies at the end of October.

Graduation ceremonies of Doctoral candidates
Graduation ceremony for graduates of doctoral study programs will take place on November 30, 2018. Students will be informed of the specific time of ceremony during November by their study referent.

Continuous teacher training
The continuing teacher training for students of the 1st year of follow-up Master study and the parallel supplementary study for teachers will take place from February 18, 2019 - March 8, 2019. The application form will be available at cpp.upol.cz. Only registered students will be included in the continuous teacher training. Deadline for submitting applications is January 21, 2019. It will not be possible to apply after this deadline.

Registered students will be placed at schools in Olomouc and nearby (Šternberk, Přerov, Prostějov, Uničov, Litovel). Students do not have to apply for internship at these schools by themselves, they will state the school of their preference in the application. If they wish to complete internship in another region, they have to administer it by themselves. Approval of the internship by school principal has to be included in the application form. Miscellaneous

Round table
"Training of undergraduate Science and Mathematics teachers" will be discussed at the Round Table on Thursday, November 15 at 3:30 pm in the meeting room of the Dean of the Faculty of Science, on the sixth floor. The round table is designed for students (future teachers) and pedagogical staff of all scientific disciplines of universities, junior high, and high schools. In the introductory section, Šárka Miková (Psychotherapy of Be Balanced centre in Prague), Ivana Machačíková (Gymnázium Zlín-Lesní čtvrť) and Professor Josef Molnár (PrF). Furthermore, there will be a discussion on modern trends in teaching in contemporary education.

Week of Science and Technology
Within the Week of Science and Technology from November 5-9, we will be focusing on environmental issues. For students of secondary schools we have prepared morning lectures on: Life in the Water, Mysterious herpetology, GIS aka Can you create a map?, Chemical analysis of natural samples. In the afternoon, you can enjoy discussions with Martin Rulík from the Faculty of Science, Martin Konvička from the Institute of Entomology of the Academy of Sciences of Czech Republic or Vlastimil Kostkan from the Faculty of Science. In the Stronghold of Knowledge you can build an astronaut missile from November 5-11, become familiar with the solar system, or explore the clouds while strolling between their 3D models. The Center of the Region Haná offers excursions from November 7-9, during which visitors can get acquainted with work in the scientific center focused on plant research and biotechnology development, for more information visit www.cr-hana.eu/en.

Exhibition Goodbye, monarchy
An unconventional reminiscence of the Habsburg Empire was prepared by the Stronghold of Knowledge and the Scientific Library in Olomouc. From November 4, people can see an exhibition called Goodbye, monarchy, while visiting authentic Viennese café. The rich interactive program reminds us that our Czech lands were once part of a great empire inhabited by various nations. Goodbye, monarchy that shows the Habsburg monarchy in 1804-1918, will be on display in the Stronghold of Knowledge until the end of December 2018.

GIS Day
GIS Day is a major event where users of geographic information systems open their facilities to schools, colleagues, and the general public to show specific applications created by this important technology. This year, after the end of the lecture, there will be about 30 minutes of field action with GPS technology! GIS Day takes place on November 14 at 8:00. More information can be found here.
