Christmas donations for Klokánek

Faculty of Science under the auspices of Dean Martin Kubala organizes "Christmas journey for children", a Christmas collection of donations for children living in Olomouc Klokánek, run by the Fund for vulnerable children. This year you may contribute by art supplies, cosmetic products for teenagers, bus tickets, baby food or diapers (size 4). Gifts for children in difficult situation may be brought to the lobby (the reception desk); in Holice to Department of Botany or at the Management department of Centre of the Region Haná by December 13.

„I am glad I can support a project that has a long term tradition at our Faculty. Any kind of help offered to children who grow up in incomplete families. I would like to thank all employees, students and sponsors who participate in the collection," said Dean Martin Kubala.

On Friday 14, the Dean will personally hand over the gifts to Mrs. Šárka Kupčáková, the Manager of Klokánek in Olomouc.

Science and Research

Student grant competition
Rector of Palacký University Olomouc has announced the 10th year of the student grant competition at UP (IGA); announcement here. The aim of the competition is to support projects carried out by students of doctoral or master study programs, funded from specific fund for University research. Investigator of the project must be a student of a doctoral study program with UP as a training workplace or an academic worker of UP. The deadline for submitting applications is January 15, 2019 by 17:00. Applications are submitted only electronically, via OBD portal of UP. The competition is governed by the rules in Rector's Directive No. B3-13/7-SR-No8.

INTER-COST
On November 1, 2018, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports announced the third public tender in research, development and innovation of INTER-COST sub-program (LTC19) for project applications of international cooperation in research and development. Deadline for submitting proposals is December 12, 2018; more information here.

INTER-ACTION
On November 1, 2018, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports announced a public tender in research, development and innovation of INTER-ACTION sub-program (VES19IZRAEL) for submission of projects of international bilateral Czech-Israeli cooperation in research and development. Deadline for submitting proposals is January 28, 2019; more information here.

For Students

Study department
The Study department is open in its regular office hours until December 21. During Christmas holidays it will remain close until January 2, 2019.

Graduation ceremony of Doctoral candidates
Graduation ceremonies of students of doctoral study programs will take place on November 30, at 10:00 am in the auditorium of the Faculty of Education. Students shall meet at 9:15 by the auditorium at Faculty of Education.

Internships
Scholarships to be reimbursed by the end of 2018 need to be submitted by Friday, November 30. The settlement date will be December 10, 2018. Scholarship applications submitted in December will be processed as of January 10, 2019.

Doctoral study
We ask students of doctoral study programs, who will apply for fundamental changes regarding their studies (e.g. interruption of studies, change of supervisor, change of form of study, etc.), to register their application first.

Students who decide to complete their studies at their own request do so by the 25th of the at the Registry of the Faculty and get a copy of application.

Students who wish to terminate studies should do so by the 25th day of the month due to administration linked to the payment of scholarships.

International and outer University Information

Scholarships in Hungary
The Foreign Cooperation House offers scholarships in Hungary for students of Bachelor and Master studies, Doctoral programs for students and research stays for university teachers and summer courses of Hungarian language. Deadline for submitting applications is November 30, 2018.

Travel costs can be reimbursed at the foreign departments of the home university; the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports will then reimburse travel expenses.

Summer courses of German language
The Foreign Cooperation House also offers summer courses in German language DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). Designed for students in their 2nd year and higher, the scholarship is 950 EUR. Applications in German are accepted until December 1, 2018. Details here.

Scholarships in Beijing

Beijing Institute of Technology offers three scholarships from the China Scholarship Council for Master and Doctoral students, exchange stays or four-week internships. Faculty Operation

Power outage
On December 17, 2018, the main building of the Faculty of Science will be closed all day. It is due to work in the low-voltage switchgear where it is necessary to switch off the power supply for the entire building. Heads of departments should decide where work is carried out on this day.

Operation of the Registry before the end of the year
On December 17, the Registry in the main Faculty building as well as in Holice will be closed.

On December 19, the Registry in the main Faculty building will be opened from 7:00 to 11:30 and from 10:00 to 11:30 in Holice.

The mail will only be collected until 11:00 am.

On 21 December, the Registry in the main Faculty building will be opened from 7:00 to 9:30 and in Holice from 10:00 to 11:00.

Mailboxes with regular and registered mail will last be collected at 10:45 in Holice and at 11:45 in the main building. Mail delivered after this date will not be sent until January 2.

Operation of the Economic department
Tax return documents and final invoices for pro-forma invoices, please deliver to the Economic department by Friday, December 14.

Originals of tax documents / invoices, receipts, travel orders, payments to the account, etc. should be delivered on a continuous basis, however by Friday, December 12, the latest. After that date, proper accounting in 2018 cannot be guaranteed.

You will also need to process all allowances for your travel orders in 2018. By Wednesday, December 12, please return your cash deposit to the cash Register.

Operation of the HR and Payroll Department before the end of the year

By Wednesday, December 12, 12:00, the following documents must be submitted to the HR and Payroll Department:

To the HR Department ( Veronika Caletková, Veronika Vašková), please turn in:

  • proposals for changing job and wage classification
  • applications for renewal of employment contracts ending this year
  • new Agreements to perform a job (DPP), Agreements on working activity (DPČ)

To the Payroll Department (Libuše Pěčková, Ivona Kristková), please turn in:

  • holiday requests, incapacity to work, family allowance support
  • proposals for the payment of extraordinary rewards
  • suggestions for one-off adjustments of personal evaluations
  • Requirements for meal vouchers and Unichecks +
  • timesheets for payment for DPP and DPČ payments for December 2018

We ask you for increased attention while entering data as no further inspection will be made.

In the case of an employee sickness or taking care of a family member after December 12, report the changes to the wage account as soon as possible, but no later than January 2 to 12:00. Print the attendance after the final check and closing of the attendance at payroll department, i.e. on Wednesday, January 2.

Applications for calculation of wage costs in projects should be sent to both payroll accountants via e-mail. The requirements will be processed and returned back for the eventual revision by December 18. Additional salary adjustments for projects will be possible until December 19 until 12:00.

HR and Payroll Department will be open to employees until December 21, after the New Year from January 2. If you do not need a personal consultation, and only want to submit the documents, we would greatly appreciate if you used the internal mail - mailbox 6 on the ground floor in the corridor behind the reception desk.

Tax returns will be signed by employees from January 10 according to the schedule that employees will receive by e-mail in Czech and English versions. The financial administration uses tax returns in the Czech language, for foreign employees there will be English a translation available for basic orientation only. Since it is not possible for HR and Payroll Department o arrange a personal consultation to sign a tax return in English, we will very much welcome if a foreign employee is accompanied by a Czech colleague from his workplace to arrange interpretation.

Operation of the Faculty before the end of the year
Buildings in Envelopa and Holice campuses will be closed from December 22 to January 1. The main Faculty building will be open from 7am to 2pm from 27th to 28th December only for employees. Surveillance of the facilities will be performed by an external service. Please communicate all possible faults and malfunctions to its employees, who will then provide information to the building management emergency service.

Outage of telephone lines in Holice campus
Related to the preparation of moving the switchboard from building 47 (main building) to a temporary location in building 54 (building management - old reception desk), phone lines will be out in the following dates:

Miscellaneous

Time of work
Dean of the Faculty of Science grants members of the academic community and Faculty staff time of work on December 27 and 28. Time of work granted by the Rector has been scheduled for December 31.

Lecture on synanthropic birds and bats
The Department of Zoology cordially invites you to a lecture by Evžen Tošenovský, a representative of the Czech Society of Ornithology, called: Uneasy fate of Urban Animal species - Insulation and Glass. The lecture will be held on November 28, 2018 at 3:45 pm in classroom S2 of the Department of Zoology. The lecture focuses on technical measures of how to keep nests / shelters on buildings and to prevent unnecessary bird deaths on glazed surfaces. It summarizes more than ten years of experience of the Czech Society of Ornithology and the Czech Society for Protection of Bats, as well as the current state of this issue in the Czech Republic.

Winter PosPos
We invite all staff, Ph.D. students and Seniors of the Faculty to the Post-semestral gathering with Christmas punch, music and pre-Christmas goodies. With will say goodbye to the winter semester on Wednesday, December 19, from 12:00 pm in the main Faculty building.

The Erasmus Info day will be held on December 5th, 2018 from 16.00 at the auditorium of the Faculty of Science.
