Night of Scientists at the Faculty of Science was visited by more than two thousand visitors

The management of the Faculty and the Department of External and Internal Relations would like to thank everyone who participated in the organization of the October Night of Scientists at the Faculty of Science and Fort Science, whether as guarantors of the booths or as representatives of the department at the booth.

Namely, we would like to thank the Departments of Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biophysics, Botany, Ecology and the Environment, Experimental Physics, Physical Chemistry, Geography, Geoinformatics, Geology, Computer Science, Mathematical Analysis and Applications of Mathematics, Optics, Development and Environmental Studies, Joint Optical Laboratory UP and Institute of Physics AS CR.

Furthermore, the Cabinet of Foreign Languages, the Chemical Society of UP, the Board Games Club DoUP Olomouc, POSPOL of the Faculty of Science and UP Crowd. We also thank Siemens, s.r.o. and HELLA AUTOTECHNIK NOVA s.r.o. who were partners of the event.

I greatly appreciate all those involved in the Scientists' Night. I would like to thank the scientists and promoters who were not only willing to invent interesting experiments and programs, but also came to work on Friday evening so that they could introduce visitors to the science from an unconventional yet understandable point of view. The Night of Scientists excellently complements our Science and Research Fair (since 2020, the Natural-scientifis Fair), which also enjoys great turnout,“ said Dean Martin Kubala, who also attended this event.

Science and Research

Book nomination
Until October 10, 2019 it is possible to nominate books published by VUP or VFF (from October 2018 to date, or earlier if not yet sent) for submission to the Web of Science database. Please send your books to Miriam Delongová at Science and Research department and at the same time send an e-mail to miriam.delongova@upol.cz with the book title, author and ISBN. Vice-Dean Karel Lemr, the chairman of the editorial board for the Faculty of Science, then selects the publications to be sent to WoS.

International and outer University Information

Scholarship programs for students
ESO (European Southern Observatory) offers scholarship opportunities for doctoral students at workplaces in Chile and Germany. The offer is open to students of astronomy or related fields for up to two years. Applications must be submitted in English by November 15, 2019. All information on the scholarship program, as well as current offers for other programs, can be found here.

Academic Senate

The upcoming meeting of the Academic Senate of the Faculty will také place on Wednesday, October 23, 1:00 pm in the Large Board room of the Dean´s Office (6.014).

For students

Registration of courses in STAG

Minor changes to subject registration in STAG are possible to make at the Department of Study by October 25, 2019.

Requests for subject recognition
Requests for subject recognition, duly completed and confirmed by the Department, must be submitted to the Study Department by October 25, 2019.

Matriculation
We ask first year students who did not attend their matriculation to sign the matriculation oath at the Department of Study during regular office hours.

Graduation ceremonies
We ask students who graduated between August to September 2019 and want to take part in November graduation ceremonies to inform their study referent by email. For information on how to pay the fee, visit the following website, where you can find the exact schedule of ceremonies at the end of October.

Study plan of 1st year doctoral students
We ask first-year doctoral students to submit their study plans by September 30, 2019. The study plan must be signed by the student, their supervisor and chair of the subject committee. At the same time, we ask students to enter the topic of dissertation and name of supervisor into STAG.

Pamper your nature!
The Dean of the Faculty of Science has announced VIII. year of the Pamper your Nature competition to support student projects to promote and improve environment of the Faculty. Full-time students in bachelor, master or doctoral studies at the Faculty of Science can participate in the call. It is possible to win up to CZK 10,000! Detailed conditions of the competition and projects from last year are published here.

Faculty Operation

Records of excursions
Based on the demand of the departments, a simple form was created for the registration of excursions of schools in the academic year 2019/2020, which are / will be realized at individual workplaces of the Faculty of Science. The form is available here. We ask you to fill it in at the end of the academic year so that we can evaluate this important activity in the field of recruitment and interest in the field and present the results in the Newsletter. Driver training In accordance with provision of para. No. 262/2006 Coll., the Labor Code, as amended, the REFERENCE VEHICLE DRIVERS TRAINING will take again place. It is intended for UP employees who, in the course of their work duties, drive their motor vehicles or company cars of the employer with a weight of less than 3.5 t and are not professional drivers (they do not have motor vehicle driving agreed in the employment contract). The training will take place on October 22, 2019, 8:00 - 9:15 in the auditorium of the main Faculty building (2.001).

Attendance lists will be prepared for the participants in front of the room. Without legibly written name of the employee, his workplace and signature on the attendance list, his participation will be invalid. There is no need to pre-register for the event. The training is valid for two years. Next training of the drivers of the referential vehicles is planned for January to February 2020. The employees will be informed about the exact date and time by e-mail in advanc.

Public transport tickets are now on sale at FreshUP

FreshUP Bistro located on the ground floor of the main building has recently started selling tickets for public transport in Olomouc. Customers can buy selected types of tickets:

  • 14 CZK = basic fare for adults and students over 18 years
  • 23 CZK = all-day for students with a student card (discounted)
  • 46 CZK = all-day adults

Cafeteria and dormitories maintenance, who operate FreshUP, have thus met the requirements of students, employees as well as visitors of the Faculty

Project Researcher - call for new topics!
We would like to address the employees of the Faculty of Science with a call to write new topics for the Researcher project. The target group are gifted high school students, enthusiastic about science, who will be solving your topics during the whole academic year or a part of it. They will become acquainted with the fundamentals of scientific research and the university world. The Researcher project is an important activity motivating students in studying at our faculty. Young participants of the project have the opportunity to defend the results of their work at the May conference every year. Suggestions for new topics can be sent to jiri.kvita@upol.cz. Chemistry and Technology for Life Conference
On November 6, 2019, the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava organizes a student scientific conference entitled Chemistry and Technology for Life. The conference will include a competition for the best student scientific paper in 25 planned sections in the fields of chemistry, biotechnology and chemical and food technology. The best works will be awarded financially.

Benefit concert
The Little Noe Foundation in cooperation with the Military Hospital Olomouc organizes a benefit concert on November 1, 2019 in Hradisko Monastery in Olomouc. Among the performers at the concert beginning at 7:00 pm will be Felix Slováček, Vjačeslav Grochovskij and Gamavilla Quartet.
