Dear students,

the Dean of the Faculty of Science announced the Dean's Award for the best teacher. Students of the third and higher years of bachelor's and master's degree programs can participate and vote for the best teachers. Each student can nominate up to three teachers who will be assigned votes of 1.0, 0.7 and 0.5 value. Voting requires logging in to the portal, but the vote is anonymous. Voting is possible electronically on the website until the end of October. The best teacher will be awarded for each of the five fields (Mathematics and Computer science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Ecology, Earth sciences).

Science and Research

Dean's Award 2019 to authors developing scientific field
The Dean of the Faculty of Science will appreciate authors and groups of authors of study and popular science texts, monographs and original scientific publications. The proposal may be submitted by an employee or student of the Faculty of Science through the head of the department in writing along with a copy of the publication by November 30, at the Department of Science and Research to Alena Jarošová (alena.jarosova@upol.cz).

Submitted publications must meet the following conditions:

• the proposed employee is an employee of the Faculty of Science with a minimum of 0.5 workload,

• the proposed worker is the first or corresponding author of the publication

• the proposed student studies full-time

• the scientific journal, where the original scientific publication is published, is in the 90th and above percentile according to Web Of Science

• the publication was published in print in 2019. Works published in 2018 may also be submitted, if they were not entered in the competition last year.

The application form and detailed information about the competition conditions can be found here. In the application it is necessary to specify the distribution of the prize among the individual co-authors, who by their signature on the application confirm the agreement with the division.

ZETA program
On October 9, 2019, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA ČR) announced the fourth public tender in research and experimental development (hereinafter the public tender) in the Program for the Support of Applied Research ZÉTA.

The subject of this public tender is the selection of proposals for applied research, experimental development and innovation projects supported by TA ČR public funds in order to fulfill the objectives of the ZETA program.

The main objective of the program is to promote cooperation between the academia and commercial sector through the involvement of university students and, where appropriate, secondary school students and young researchers up to 35 years of age. The deadline for submission of project proposals through the employee of the R&D Department of Ivana Saitzová (ivana.saitzova@upol.cz) is set for November 19, 2019. GAMA 2
On October 9, 2019, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR) announced the second public tender in research and experimental development (hereinafter referred to as the public tender) in the Program of Applied Research, Experimental Development and Innovation GAMA 2nd sub-program 2, Seal of Excellence.

The tender is aimed solely at supporting projects of small and medium-sized enterprises based in the Czech Republic, which received the EC Seal of Excellence in the SME Instrument Phase 1 in the 2nd and 3rd deadlines of 2019.

The deadline for the submission of project proposals through the employee of the R&D Department of Ivana Saitzová (ivana.saitzova@upol.cz) is set for November 19, 2019. More information can be found here.

Call for nominations for members of GACR evaluation panels
The Grant Agency of the Czech Republic announced a call for proposals for candidates for the evaluation panels of the Czech Science Foundation for the forthcoming term of office, starting April 1, 2020.

A detailed call for nominations, a candidate proposal form and a description of the individual evaluation panels can be found on the Czech Science Foundation website.

If you are interested, please send the completed proposal form to the evaluation panels for the upcoming term of office by November 25, 2019 to ivana.saitzova@upol.cz.

International and outer University Information

Fulbright Specialist applications
The second round of Fulbright Specialist applications has been announced, the application deadline is November 30, 2019. The program is designed for 14-42 days of US experts to be held in the calendar year 2020 and is primarily intended to establish new contacts and collaboration. The program is not intended for individual research work, but primarily for teaching, curriculum innovation, methodology, etc. The cost of staying is minimal for the host. Travel costs and salary is paid by the American side, the host institution provides only accommodation (also suitable for university accommodation) and boarding (25 USD / day). Study stays and summer courses of Russian language
For academic year 2020/2021, Palacký University Olomouc has received quotas for scholarships in Russia for study visits for Bachelor and Follow-up Master students (2 places) and for summer Russian language courses in 2020 (3 places). The deadline for applications is November 30, 2019.

Applications must be submitted to the foreign department of the Rector´s Office with an assigned scholarship. Rector´s Office will set an earlier deadline for submitting forms so that it can pre-select applicants within the University. As of the aforementioned date, the Rector´s Office submits documentation of selected candidates to the following address: Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports - Department of Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation, Department of International Relations, Karmelitská 529/5, 118 12 Prague 1. In addition, Russia offers 4 places for study stays for Doctoral students and 15 places for study and research visits for university academics. The deadline for submitting applications is November 30, 2019. Applicants will deliver the required documents to the seat of the Academic Information Agency (House of International Cooperation, AIA, Na Poříčí 1035/4, 110 00 Prague 1) within the set deadline.

The upcoming meeting of the Academic Senate of the Faculty will take place on Wednesday, October 23, 1:00 pm in the Large Board room of the Dean´s Office (6.014).

Registration of courses in STAG
Minor changes to subject registration in STAG are possible to make at the Department of Study by October 25, 2019.

Requests for subject recognition
Requests for subject recognition, duly completed and confirmed by the Department, must be submitted to the Study Department by October 25, 2019. We would like to remind students that only the credits, colloquiums and examinations that have been completed less than two years prior to the application for recognition are recognized under the Dean's Directive (A-17/4-SD) and only those exams that were graded "A", "B" or "C".

Matriculation
We ask first year students who did not attend their matriculation to sign the matriculation oath at the Department of Study during regular office hours.

Graduation ceremonies
Graduation ceremonies of students of Bachelor and Follow-up Master programs will take place on November 8 in the auditorium of Faculty of Science. We ask students who have signed up to send a copy of proof of payment of the fee for the ceremony to their study referent by e-mail. Detailed schedule of ceremonies can be found here.

Study plan of 1st year doctoral students
We ask first-year doctoral students who have not submitted their study plans to do so as soon as possible. The study plan must be signed by the student, their supervisor and chair of the subject committee. At the same time, we ask students to enter the topic of dissertation and name of supervisor into STAG as well as turn in the relevant paperwork to the Department of Study.

Graduation ceremony of Doctoral candidates will take place December 4, in the auditorium of Faculty of Education.

Miscellaneous

Project Researcher? Call for new topics!
We would like to invite all employees of the Faculty of Science to write new topics for project Researcher. The target group is gifted high school students, enthusiastic about science, who will be investigating your topics during the whole academic year or only part of it. They will become acquainted with the fundamentals of research and the university world. The Researcher project is an important activity supporting the interest of these motivated students in studying at our Faculty. Young participants of the project have the opportunity to defend the results of their work at an annual conference. Suggestions for new topics can be sent to jiri.kvita@upol.cz. Round table
The topic of „Undergraduate Training of Science and Mathematics Teachers“ will be discussed at the Round Table on Thursday, November 14, at 3.30 pm in the large meeting room on the 6th floor (room 6.014). The round table is intended for students (future teachers) and teachers of all fields of science at universities, secondary schools and secondary schools. The guest will be psychologist Mgr. Markéta Hlavsová with a lecture called Feedback or How I Influence Children. During the discussion, attention will be paid to feedback, on how teachers affect children, as well as on the first impression (how quickly it will be created, how long it takes to change it, what is at stake). At the end of the lecture there will be space for discussion and transfer of feedback to the reality of the school (testing, teaching, authority, bullying). Answering the questions of what to do when pupils do not cooperate, disturb, provoke.

Tasting
FreshUP Bistro located in the main Faculty building offers products from Šufánek s.r.o., which is engaged in the production of nut butters. On Wednesday, October 23, 2019, from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm, samples of their assortment will be prepared near the FreshUP bistro.

Week of science and technology
Science and Technology Week of The Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic is the largest science festival in the Czech Republic. The Stronghold of Knowledge will also be involved in the event, which includes lectures, exhibitions, workplace events, documentary films, workshops, science cafes and many other activities. The festival is intended both for secondary school students, for whom we prepare lectures and guided tours in the morning, as well as for the general public, who are targeted by the afternoon and evening program. The nineteenth year with the subtitle „Science, Freedom, Responsibility“ will take place from November 11 - 17, 2019. The main theme of weekdays will be global threats such as climate change, natural disasters and more. The weekend will be complemented by the theme of the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution.
