Christmas collection for „Klokánek“

Under the auspices of Dean Martin Kubala, the Faculty of Science organizes a Christmas collection for children from Klokánek, Olomouc, a facility of the Children in Need Fund, from November 25 to December 13. You can donate toys, party games, school and art supplies, skin care products for older girls and boys, public transport tickets worth 7 and 14 CZK, washing gels and dishwasher tablets or diapers size 4 for the youngest. You can now also contribute any amount of money to a transparent Klokánek account in Olomouc: 2501674563/2010. Gifts for children who find themselves in a difficult life situation can be handed over at the reception desk on the ground floor of the main building of the faculty (door no. 1.001) or in Holice at the Department of Botany (2.08).

On Friday, December 13, 2019, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Martin Kubala will personally hand over a collection of gifts to Mrs. Šárka Kupčáková, head of Klokánek in Olomouc.

Science and Research

Dean´s Award for scientist developing their field
By November 30 it is still possible to submit proposals for the appreciation of authors and group of authors of study and popular science texts, monographs and original scientific publications. The proposal may be submitted by an employee or student of the Faculty of Science through the head of the department in writing (in the form of an application for the competition) together with a copy of the publication at the Department of Science and Research Mgr. Alena Jarošová, e-mail: alena.jarosova@upol.cz. Submitted publications must meet the following conditions:

• the proposed person is an employee of the Faculty of Science of UP with a minimum of 0.5 workload and stated the affiliation of the Faculty of Science as the main workplace;

• the proposed person is the first or corresponding author of the publication;

• the proposed student studies full-time;

• the scientific journal where the original scientific publication is published is in the respective subject class according to Web Of Science at 90th percentile and above;

• the publication was published in 2019; entries published in 2018 may also be submitted, if they had not been entered in the competition previously.

SOLSTICE
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has launched a call for proposals under Joint Programming Initiative "Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe" (JPI Climate) called "SOLSTICE" - Societal Transformation in the Face of Climate Change. There is only one round. The deadline for submitting project proposals to Miriam Delong's at R&D department is January 30, 2020. A short project summary must be submitted electronically by January 9. Start-up grants and internships from the Experientia Foundation
The Experientia Foundation offers young scientists from the fields of organic, bioorganic or medicinal chemistry who have completed a one-year post-doctoral research internship abroad to apply for a start-up grant to establish their own research group with annual support of CZK 2 million. Applications can be submitted by March 15, 2020. More information about start-up grants here. THÉTA
The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (hereinafter referred to as TA CR) announced the third public tender in research and experimental development in Program for the Support of Applied Research, Experimental Development and Innovation THÉTA.

The main objective of the program is to contribute to the fulfillment of the vision of transformation and modernization of the energy sector in accordance with approved strategic materials. This objective will be achieved through support for energy research, development and innovation projects aimed at improving governance in the energy sector by public administrations, new technologies and system elements with high potential for rapid deployment and long-term technological perspectives.

The subject of this public tender is the selection of proposals for applied research, experimental development and innovation projects supported by TA CR public funds in order to fulfill the objectives of the THÉTA program.

The deadline for submitting project proposals through Ivana Saitzová at R&D Department (ivana.saitzova@upol.cz) is December 17, 2019. Detailed information on the call can be found here.

International and outer University Information

Scholarships in Hungary
For the academic year 2020-2021, Hungary offers 25 scholarships for 5-month study stays of Bachelor and Follow-up Master students, 12 scholarships for 1-2-week long research stays for university teachers and 12 scholarships for research stays for university teachers of 1 to 3 months. It also offers a total of 27 months of study stays for those interested in Doctoral studies of up to 9 months per student.

Those interested in summer courses of Hungarian among university students and teachers in 2020 are offered 12 places with the length of stay of 1 month.

The deadline for submitting applications is December 2, 2019 12:00 pm. Candidates shall deliver the required documents to the headquarters of the Academic Information Agency (House of International Cooperation, AIA, Na Poříčí 1035/4, 110 00 Prague 1) within the set deadline.

Scholarships in Egypt
Egypt offers 4 scholarships for study stays of Doctoral students for 10 to 12 months and 2 scholarships for study visits for university teachers of a maximum of 10 days. It also offers study and lecture stays of a total of 18 months for university teachers and researchers for 3 to 5 months.The deadline for submitting applications is December 13, 2019 until 3:00 pm. Candidates shall deliver the required documents to the headquarters of the Academic Information Agency (House of International Cooperation, AIA, Na Poříčí 1035/4, 110 00 Prague 1) within the set deadline.

Scholarships in Northern Macedonia
Northern Macedonia offers a total of 10 months of study stays for Bachelor and Follow-up Master students for up to 2 months, as well as 10 months for Doctoral students for up to 2 months. It also offers 2 scholarship positions for study and lecture stays for university teachers and researchers for a maximum of 10 days.The deadline for submitting applications is December 13, 2019 until 3:00 pm. Candidates shall deliver the required documents to the headquarters of the Academic Information Agency (House of International Cooperation, AIA, Na Poříčí 1035/4, 110 00 Prague 1) within the set deadline.

Academic Senate

The upcoming meeting of the Academic Senate of the Faculty will take place on Wednesday, December 4, 1:00 pm in the Large Board room of the Dean´s Office(6.014).

Comment on the documents
On behalf of the Chairman of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science, prof. Tomáš Opatrný we would like to ask you to comment on the documents concerning the change of the Constitution of Palacký University, including the explanatory report and the new Constitution of the Czech Institute of Science and Technology of Palacký University Olomouc, including the explanatory report.

Both internal regulations relate to the proposed establishment of a new University body. In addition to the obligatory documents for the amendment of both constitutions, there is a number of related documents, which the AS UP will not approve and therefore are not subject to commenting.

The deadline for sending the opinions of academic community members and UP staff to the aforementioned documents is November 24, 2019. Comments can be sent through a form, which can be found at the Faculty´s website.

Ethics Committee
On October 23, the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science approved the establishment of the faculty Ethics Committee (its constitution can be found here) and announced the election of its members. All members of the academic community can submit proposals for committee members. The proposal must include the consent of the proposed candidate. The term of office of the first representatives of individual fields was determined by lot as follows: Physics and Chemistry - 6 years, Earth Sciences and Biology and Ecology 4 years, Mathematics and Informatics 2 years. After the first replacement, the term of office of each member will be six years.

Please consider submitting proposals of suitable candidates for this position. The deadline for submitting proposals for Ethics Committee members is November 19, 2019 to the Chairman of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science (also by e-mail: tomas.opatrny@upol.cz). Election itself will then take place at the meeting of the Academic Senate on December 4.

For students

Faculty of the Year
The Faculty of Science UP ranked 1st in the Faculty of the Year 2019 poll in the category Natural Sciences – Public and Private. It is a prestigious poll among students and recent university graduates in the Czech Republic who evaluate the quality of teaching and the teaching environment. We would like to thank all the students who participated in the vote. We appreciate it very much.

Graduation ceremony of PhD students
Graduation ceremony of students of doctoral study programs will take place on December 4 in the auditorium of Faculty of Education.

Teacher training
The Department of Pedagogical Preparation of the Faculty of Science of Palacký University informs students that the continuous teacher training for 1st year follow-up students and concurrent supplementary studies of teaching will take place from February 17 to March 6, 2020. The application form is available on the website. Only registered students will be enrolled in continuous teacher training.

The application must be submitted by January 13, 2020.

Enrolled students will be placed at schools in Olomouc, or in the nearby region (Šternberk, Přerov, Prostějov, Uničov, Litovel). Students do not have to arrange their own practice at these schools, they shall state in their application which school in Olomouc or their surroundings they would prefer. Students wishing to do internship in another region must arrange it themselves. At the same time, they must apply to the school headquarters for approval of continuous teacher training, which the school confirms on the application form.

Faculty Operation

Operation of the registry before the end of the year
On December 12 registry will be open from 9:00 to 11:00 at Envelopa and from 10:00 to 11:00 in Holice. Outgoing mailbox will be collected by 11:00.

On December 23 the mail room will be open from 9:00 to 10:00 at Envelopa and from 10:30 to 11:30 in Holice. Mailboxes with both ordinary and registered mail are last selected at 11:45 in Envelope and 11:15 in Holice. Mail delivered after this deadline will not be sent until January 2, 2020.

Operation of the faculty before the end of the year
The main building (Envelopa) and the buildings in the Holice complex will be closed from December 24, 2019 to January 1, 2020. The building will be guarded by an external guard service. Report any malfunctions and defects to its employees, who will then forward the information to the Emergency Building Maintenance Service.

The VLD building - 17. listopadu 50 and the SLO building - 17. listopadu 50a will be closed from December 23, 2019 to January 1, 2020. During this period, entry will only be allowed with employee cards.

Operation of the HR and Payroll Department before the end of the year

By Wednesday, December 11, 12:00, the following documents must be submitted to the HR and Payroll Department:

  • proposals for changing job and wage classification 12/2019
  • applications for renewal of employment contracts ending this year
  • new Agreements to perform a job (DPP), Agreements on working activity (DPČ)

To the Payroll Department (Libuše Pěčková, Ivona Kristková), please turn in:

  • holiday requests, incapacity to work, family allowance support
  • proposals for the payment of extraordinary rewards
  • suggestions for one-off adjustments of personal evaluations
  • Requirements for meal vouchers and Unichecks +
  • timesheets for payment for DPP and DPČ payments for December 2019

We ask you for increased attention while entering data as no further inspection will be made.

In the case of an employee sickness or taking care of a family member after December 11, report the changes to the wage account as soon as possible, but no later than January 2 to 12:00. Print the attendance after the final check and closing of the attendance at payroll department, i.e. on Friday, January 3.

Applications for calculation of wage costs in projects should be sent to both payroll accountants via e-mail. The requirements will be processed and returned back for the eventual revision by December 17. Additional salary adjustments for projects will be possible until December 19 until 12:00.

HR and Payroll Department will be open to employees until December 20, after the New Year fromJanuary 2. If you do not need a personal consultation, and only want to submit the documents, we would greatly appreciate if you used the internal mail - mailbox 6 on the ground floor in the corridor behind the reception desk.

Tax returns will be signed by employees from January 13 according to the schedule that employees will receive by e-mail in Czech and English versions. The financial administration uses tax returns in the Czech language, for foreign employees there will be English a translation available for basic orientation only. Since it is not possible for HR and Payroll Department o arrange a personal consultation to sign a tax return in English, we will very much welcome if a foreign employee is accompanied by a Czech colleague from his workplace to arrange interpretation.

Undrawn funds at the end of the year for ongoing projects of targeted support of R&D (GA ČR, TA ČR ost. SR) For projects where the decisions or contracts do not stipulate the accounting of the project at the end of the multiannual grant, the unused funds beyond the scope of UP Fund will be returned to the provider also within the accounting deadline of 2019. For projects, where it is clearly stated in the decisions or contracts that the project will be accounted for at the end of the project implementation and the unused funds beyond the scope of the UP Fund can be transferred to the next period, these funds will not be returned to the provider. It is therefore necessary to approach projects individually according to contracts and contract documents.

Miscellaneous

Records of excursions
At individual faculty departments, many of you are dedicated to providing excursions to schools, which are very important in the composition of recruitment activities and promoting the fields. To record this important activity, a short form has been created, in which please record excursions of schools in the academic year 2019/2020, which have been/ will be realized at your workplaces. Please, fill it in so that we can evaluate this activity at the end of the academic year (or semester) and work with the results. We will introduce you to the outputs in the Newsletter. Offer of discounted vacation in Karlov
Employees, students and seniors of the Faculty of Science are offered the possibility of recreation in 2020 at the faculty facility in Karlov pod Pradědem. Information on accommodation and booking form can be found at www.karlov.upol.cz. Since January 1, 2020, a new price list has been in force, in which applicants from the Faculty of Science still be given an advantage. Do not hesitate with booking your holiday, for as of December 1, booking for next year will be made available to applicants outside the faculty.
