Dear academics, dear students,

the elections into the Academic Senate of PrF as well as UP are approaching. This year for the first time they will happen electronically. You may elect your new senators into the Faculty’s senate on May 20 and 21, and into the Academic Senate of UP from May 19 to 25. Reasons for this step are the consequences of Covid-19 pandemic. Science and Research

New GACR call - NRP 78 "Covid-19":
The Czech Science Foundation (GA CR) announces within the framework of international cooperation in basic research the NRP 78 "Covid-19" call for the submission of joint project proposals evaluated on the principle of Lead Agency (LA grants) thematically focused on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Two-year project proposals can be submitted to all fields of basic research. The call is divided by the Swiss agency SNSF into four thematic units:

  • Basic aspects of SARS-CoV-2 biology, pathogenicity and immunogenicity
  • New approaches in COVID-19 epidemiology and disease prevention
  • COVID-19 vaccine, drug development and diagnostics
  • Clinical COVID-19 research and therapeutic interventions

This is an international cooperation within the time-limited call NRP 78 "Covid-19" of the Swiss agency SNSF (Swiss National Science Foundation).

Announcement of the public tender TA ČR DELTA 2
The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR) has announced the second public tender in research and experimental development in the DELTA 2 Program for the Support of Applied Research, Experimental Development and Innovation (DELTA 2 Program). The subject of this public tender is the selection of proposals for projects of applied research and experimental development supported from public funds of the TA CR in order to meet the objectives of the DELTA Program 2.

The main goal of this program is to increase the number of specific outputs and results of applied research by supporting joint projects of applicants from the Czech Republic and applicants from abroad in areas that are promising for the countries, improving the transfer of international knowledge, good practice and know-how and facilitating penetration to foreign markets. This is an international challenge and foreign partners must be based in one of the following locations - Alberta, Brazil, Zhejiang, the Republic of Korea, Quebec, the State of Israel, Taiwan, Jiangsu, and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Program to support applied health research
The Ministry of Health has announced a one-stage public tender for targeted support of the Ministry, for solving projects of medical research and development fulfilling the announced Program for support of applied medical research for 2020-2026. All necessary forms are available in ISVP app. Please send generated proposals in pdf file to Miriam Delongová via email: miriam.delongova@upol.cz by June 23. Details here.

Danubius Young Scientist Award 2020
The Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Research and the Institute for the Danube and Central Europe have announced a call for nominations for the Danubius Young Scientist Award 2020. The award is intended for people with outstanding achievements in scientific activities and achievements in relation to the Danube region. The prize will be awarded to 14 young researchers - one from each country that is part of the EU's strategy for the Danube region. Each winner will receive EUR 1,200. More information and award criteria can be found on the webside. The deadline for submitting nominations has been extended to May 29, 2020.

Applied Research Program - Earth by Ministry of Health
On May 4, the Ministry of Agriculture announced a public tender in research, development and innovation within the "Applied Research Program of the Ministry of Agriculture for the period 2017 - 2025, EARTH" with the beginning of projects in 2021, in accordance with its research needs here. The deadline for submitting project proposals is June 17, 2020, conditions and more information can be found here.

International and outer University Information

Rotary scholarships for exchange students from Eastern Europe
The International Office has the pleasure to offer scholarships funded by the Rotary Foundation Oldenburg-Ammerland e.V. and DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) to prospective exchange students from our Eastern European partner universities. Duration: for two semesters starting in October 2020. Monthly rate: 700-800 EUR (depending on academic level). Application deadline: July 1st, 2020. More information here.

Contact with employees at the Study department
As of May 18, the study department is reopened during standard office hours with several restrictions: Ing. Jana Camfrlová will be present only on Tuesday and Thursday, Mgr. Marcela Chytilová in the week of 18. - 22. 5. 2020 only on Monday and Wednesday, and from 25.5. always in the morning office hours. Mgr. Martina Karásková is still only available via e-mail.

We continue to ask students to process applications preferably by e-mail with their study assistant. It is also possible to close the study before the final state exams via e-mail.

Closing of the year before final state examinations
We draw the attention of graduate students to the obligation to close the year before the final examination. The year must be closed no later than three weeks before the exam´s deadline, by e-mail to your study assistant.

Graduation ceremony
The original date of graduation ceremony has been cancelled due to the current situation, graduations will probably take place in November. If you have already registered for graduation, paid the fee and you are no longer interested in the ceremony, we will refund the fee, just inform your study assistant. You can pick up your diplomas from your clerk by prior e-mail agreement.

Continuous teacher training for student teachers
The Department of Pedagogical Training of the Faculty of Science of UP announces to students that the continuous practice of student teachers in the 2nd year and the simultaneous supplementary study of teaching will take place from September 28 to October 23.

An application form is available on the website www.cpp.upol.cz. Only registered students will be included in the continuous teacher training. The application must be submitted no later than September 3, 2020. After this deadline, it will not be possible to register for the internship.

Registered students will be placed at schools in Olomouc, or in the nearby region (Šternberk, Přerov, Prostějov, Uničov, Litovel). Students do not have to arrange the internship at these schools themselves, in the application they will state at which school in Olomouc or its surroundings they would like to train. Students who want to do an internship in another region must arrange the internship themselves. At the same time, they must apply to the school directorate for permission to conduct continuous teacher training on the application form (cpp.upol.cz). Continuous teacher training is provided to students who complete it in the all-university term. Send any questions about pedagogical practice to e-mail: jana.slezakova@upol.cz.

Miscellaneous

Fort Science
Fort Science will open its gates on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 9:00 AM. Visitors will get acquainted with attractive novelties, including exhibits prepared by the Fort Science team together with experts from the Faculty of Science. We are currently cooperating with the Department of Physical Chemistry on an exhibition popularizing the application of nanotechnologies, selected subjects are created in consultation with geographers, geologists, geoinformatics, zoologists and botany.

When reopening the science museum, employees will follow the hygienic measures that result from the current regulations of the Government of the Czech Republic. The capacity of the building will be limited to 100 visitors at a time, and staff will emphasize maintaining a two-meter distance in individual parts of the museum. Disinfectants will be placed at the entrance, which will be used to treat individual exhibits, even during operation. More information can be found on the website of Fort Science.

Opening of vacation site in Karlov
From May 25, 2020, the Faculty of Science reopens its recreational facility in Karlov pod Pradědem. The building offers 6 rooms with a total capacity of 20 beds. PrF employees and their family members get a discount. If you are interested, you will find detailed information on the accommodation offer at www.karlov.upol.cz. There is also a booking form available, which shows the current availability.
