Ball of the Faculty of Science
Allow us to invite you to the Ball of the Faculty of Science which will take place on Saturday, February 29, from 8 pm in Clarion Congress Hotel Olomouc. Cloakroom, refreshments and entrance to the venue will be available from 7 pm. Music will be provided by Axel band and traditionally also ExStres. You may look forward to generous raffle.

Redeemable tickets are sold in the main Faculty building at the Department of Internal and External relations, at the cash register in Stronghold of Knowledge, in UPoint at Horní náměstí. Detailed purchasing hours are listed here. Ticket prices range from CZK 250 for tickets with no seating, CZK 370 for reserved seating, student and other groups are offered tickets for CZK 350. You may send ticket reservations to magdalena.ondrusakova@upol.cz. After that you need to pick them up at one of the selling places within 5 days. Science and Research

LA-grants
Swiss Agency, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and GACR have announced a joint call for bilateral Swiss-Czech basic research projects (LA-grants). All information on the call is posted on this website.

Project proposals can be submitted in the fields of basic research:

  1. Technical sciences
  2. Sciences of inanimate nature
  3. Medical and biological sciences
  4. Social and human sciences
  5. Agricultural and biological-environmental sciences

The Czech part of the project proposal must be sent by March 30, 2020 via the R&D department, namely Mrs. Ivana Saitzová (ivana.saitzova@upol.cz).

Coronavirus 2019-nCoV
In the context of the current situation regarding the spreading of coronavirus 2019-nCoV, we would like to provide all our employees and students currently residing in China with a basic summary of information and recommendations based on the WHO or the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Scholarship stays in France
The Academic Information Agency would like to inform about the announcement of a new scholarship offer based on a joint scholarship stay agreement between the Czech Republic and France. The scholarships will allow selected students of Doctoral study programs to study in France under the guidance of a French supervisor. Doctoral candidates can apply for two types of mobility: (a) double-doctorate (cotutelle) (15 months in total for three years), (b) short stay (1 to 3 months).

Detailed information on studying in France and application guidelines, including a list of required documents, are available on the AIA website. Candidates may send the required documents electronically to aia@dzs.cz and sciences.prague@gmail.com by February 14 by 6 pm.

Essays of Mining Science and Practice conference
The second international conference “Essays of Mining Science and Practice” will be held on April 22-24 in the Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics N. Poljak´s National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Dnipro. To participate in the conference it is necessary to submit articles with results from experimental and theoretical scientific research in the field of mining mechanics, geotechnical engineering and related technologies. Published materials will be indexed in the SCOPUS scientific database. Send materials to info@rmget.com by March 20, 2020. More information can be found on the webside and in this document.

For students

Subject registration for summer semester 2019/2020
Registration of subjects for summer semester of academic year 2019/2020 for bachelor's, follow-up master's and doctoral study programs takes place for students of the Faculty of Science from 21 January to 17 February 2020. Final state examinations and defense of final thesis
We ask students who wish to take final state examination or defend their final thesis in January/February 2020 and have not yet completed the year to come to the study department at least three weeks before the date of the exam/defense and sign up via STAG for a specific date.

Outbound students
We would like to point out that it is necessary to report all student stays abroad to Mrs. Gronychová. Unreported stays will not be entered into STAG and therefore not be portrayed in Diploma Supplement.

Faculty Operation

Local fee for staying in Olomouc
With effect from January 1, 2020, a new generally binding Decree of the Statutory City of Olomouc No. 16/2019 on local residence fee, which is CZK 21 per person, per every commenced day, with the exception of the day of arrival to Olomouc, is valid. The fee applies to a person who is not registered in the municipality and the subject of the fee is a paid stay for a maximum of 60 consecutive calendar days. The payer of the fee is the provider of the paid stay. For the persons to whom the fee applies and are accommodated in the University dormitories, the fee is paid to the city by the dormitories. Details, including categories of persons who are exempt from the fee, can be found in the Decree.

Please pay attention to the June Science Fair in relation to the setting dates of entrance exams, etc. On that this day there is increased noise and movement throughout the building, especially of children, so events where participants are expected to concentrated are inappropriate. This year the event returns to its original name Science Fair.

English courses for employees and PhD students
The Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Science UP offers English courses for employees and PhD students in the summer semester. You can choose from a wide range of courses.

Scientific journal Pedagogika
The scientific journal Pedagogika published by the Faculty of Education of Charles University is currently preparing a monothematic issue focused on non-formal education. In this context, we are looking for suitable authors who would be able to reach out to the wider professional public by contributing to the discussion on this dynamically developing area.

All information on the call for abstracts of publications can be found here. Deadline for submitting the abstracts is the end of January 2020, the articles themselves (if abstracts are accepted) should be submitted by the end of April 2020.

ICCT 2020
The eighth edition of the International Chemical Technology Conference ICCT will take place in Mikulov on April 6-8, 2020. The aim of the conference is to inform the professional public with the key challenges and problems of chemistry and energy in the international context. More information here.
