CES – Central Contract Register

The Department of Project Support (DPS) would like to ask the project investigators to submit the fully signed contract (amendment) to the relevant DPS officer for entering into the CES (UP Central Contract Register) without undue delay, but no later than 30 days after the conclusion of the contract. According to the UP internal standard R-B-22/08-ÚZ02, contracts that meet the conditions for mandatory publication have to be entered into the Register of Contracts. The contract becomes effective only on the date of publication in the Register. Any sensitive data or trade secrets are blacked out before publication in cooperation with the UP Legal Department. Submission of fully signed contracts (amendments) to the DPS officers for entering into the CES without undue delay also applies to documents that are not to be published in the Register of Contracts due to performance mainly outside the Czech Republic.

Environment for Life Programme 2: Announcement of the preliminary parameters of the 1st public tender, PP1 and PP2

The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA ČR) together with the Ministry of the Environment informs about the preparation of the 1st public tender in the Programme for Support of Applied Research and Innovation in the field of environment, climate protection and sustainable development – Environment for Life 2. The announcement of this public tender is planned for 24 April 2024.

TA ČR announces the first public tender in the following sub-programmes:

Subprogramme 1 is aimed at supporting projects in the public interest, both in the field of research and development and in the field of innovation in the public sector, especially in public administration. The aim is to simplify, improve and streamline public administration in the field of environment and climate protection, creating an environment for promoting the principles of circular economy and sustainable development in the public sector.

Subprogramme 2 focuses on new procedures, technologies, services and generally new solutions with high potential for rapid application in social, economic and environmental practice, including climate protection. Through the support of applied research, development and innovation PP2, technologies, techniques and processes will emerge that will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of companies, the innovativeness of the public sector and the attractiveness of the Czech Republic as a society developing using innovative solutions.

Call within the cross-border programme Interreg Austria – Czech Republic

Project applications can be submitted until 30 September 2024 (14:00).

On the basis of the identified needs in the programme area, priorities and specific objectives to be supported by the programme have been identified. The priority areas include:

  1. Research and innovation
  2. Climate and environment
  3. Education, culture and tourism
  4. Cross-border management

A detailed description of the priority axes can be found here. The implementation and impact of project activities on the programme area is essential, i.e. to benefit the inhabitants of the areas on both sides of the border.

The amount of the subsidy can be up to 80% of the total eligible project costs. The project application is submitted electronically via the JEMS application.

TA ČR – Transport 2030 Programme: announcement of the 2nd public tender

The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, has announced the 2nd public tender in the programme to support applied research and innovation in the field of transport – TRANSPORT 2030. The main objective of the programme is to develop the transport sector in a way that reflects societal needs, accelerates the technological and knowledge development of the Czech Republic and helps the growth of the Czech Republic's competitiveness. TA ČR – SIGMA Programme: Announcement of the 7th call for proposals – sub-objective 2, early researchers

The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic has announced the 7th public tender in the programme for support of applied research and innovation SIGMA – sub-objective 2, early researchers and balancing opportunities in applied research projects.

The SIGMA programme focuses on increasing the involvement of beginning researchers in applied research areas in specific projects directly with subjects from the application practice. Another objective is to promote equal opportunities for women and men in the applied research competition. Four research themes have been determined for this call, and each project proposal must be aligned with one of them.

  • Community energy and its management systems, small-scale energy storage

TA CR – Guidelines for submitting results to the RIV database for 2024

On the basis of the Act No. 130/2002 Coll. all recipients of support are required to enter data into the Research, Development and Innovation Information System. The TA CR sets the deadline for submission of the results for 2023 by 30 April 2024 at the latest. More on the provider's website.

TA CR – M-ERA.NET 3 Call 2024: International call in the field of materials research and innovation

ERA-NET Cofund M-ERA.NET 3 international call 2024 is open to support projects in the field of materials research and innovation. Short project proposals (pre-proposals) can be submitted until 14 May 2024. Faculty deadline: 7 May 2024.

The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic will support Czech applicants, which can be companies and research organisations. The national conditions for Czech applicants are based on the SIGMA programme. The total amount of TA CR support for the call is 1 450 000 EUR, of which a maximum of 350 000 EUR per project. The maximum allowable aid intensity for the Czech side of the project is 80% of the total eligible project costs.

International and Non-university Affairs

Internships Germany, Chile

MEYS has reopened the call for applications for internships with the international research organisation ESO (European Southern Observatory). The location of the internship is Germany or Chile, the duration is 6 or 12 months, and the scholarship is between EUR 2 500 and EUR 3 000 per month (depending on the intern's education and classification). Students, scientists and engineers working in any of the following fields can apply: astronomy, astrophysics, software engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, controlling, optics, operations engineering, project management. Open call: short-term mobilities for young scientists

Are you in your final year of a master's degree, a PhD, or are you already a postdoc? Either way, you could be the one to apply for funding for a trip abroad. Thanks to the Aurora Alliance's open call for young scientists, you can go on a research trip to one of Aurora's member universities. Find out more here.

Support for projects or summer schools

The new Aurora Open Call should contribute to closer cooperation between European universities. Up to 25,000 EUR is available for a joint international project. The call also supports the organisation of thematic summer schools with up to 20,000 EUR. The third supported activity is short-term mobilities aimed at young scientists.

COIL professional development online workshop

Between 7 and 21 May the The Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in collaboration with the University of Minnesota will organize the first online training for lecturers on COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning). COIL opens a world of possibilities for active, applied, collaborative activities that interest and motivate students while invigorating your teaching practice. Preparing students to work with peers in another country online can enrich the experience and help ensure its success. Details can be found on this website.

Preparation and reporting of mobilities

All students going on study stays and internships abroad must inform the international section of the Student Affairs Office of the Faculty of Science UP about their intention to go and the beginning and end of their trip. We also ask all lecturers, who intend to go abroad within the Erasmus+ programme, to contact the international section of the Student Affairs Office of the Faculty of Science first.

Information about foreign students who will come for an internship and about foreign experts who will come as part of Erasmus+ must be sent to the international office in advance by the department to which they are to come.

Scholarship for summer schools and language courses in Bavaria

This scholarship can be used, among other things, to attend the following summer German language courses:

The scholarship is open to students, researchers and employees of Czech public universities until 26 March 2024 (thereafter until the scholarship funds are exhausted).

The Scholar Foundation

The Scholar Foundation offers financial support to those interested in studying a Master's or Ph.D. programme at foreign universities as well as to students traveling within the inter-university agreements, especially to non-European destinations or prestigious universities in Europe.

The selection process for the academic year 2024/2025 is currently open. Applications can be submitted until the end of April 2024. All information can be found on the Foundation's website.

Window into Practice

Meeting of students with potential employers! The UP Faculty of Science together with the Career Center is organizing the Window into Practice job fair on 9 April 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Students have the opportunity to personally meet and talk with representatives of individual companies, compare their job offers, get valuable advice, information and, above all, contacts that increase their chances of employment on the labour market. Student Scientific Competition – Dean's Award

All students of the Faculty of Science are eligible to compete for the extraordinary scholarship and valuable prizes in the ‘Student Scientific Competition – Dean's Award’ in the sections of Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology and Environment, and Earth Sciences. It is also possible to enrol in the poster section. The competition takes place on 2 May 2024 and you can register until 30 April on the website, where you can also find detailed information.

Returnable boxes in the canteen

The Administration of UP Accommodation and dining services (SKM) has heard the demand of boarders and in cooperation with the REkrabička and REkelímek project will offer food for consumption outside the premises of the canteens in returnable boxes. The deposit for the returnable boxes will be CZK 80.

The Student Volunteer Day, where you can help care for the environment you live in, will take place on Friday 12 April 2024. More details here.

GeoGuessr!

The EGEA association is looking for the Olomouc champion in the GeoGuessr game! What is GeoGuessr all about? Each round consists of the player appearing in a random location on the planet within Google Streetview. The task is to find out where you are as quickly and accurately as possible. You can move around the map unrestricted, zooming in on the image and looking for any clues (but internet searches are prohibited). Whoever hits the closest to the actual location wins. Suitable for anyone interested in the world around them. Register teams (1-3 players) at: olomouc@egea.eu.

One World Festival

The One World International Human Rights Film Festival starts on 2 April at the Metropol cinema. The event, supported by UP, will draw attention to dozens of stories about human rights and their violations, as well as the brave actions of people around us, until 6 April. It will focus on climate change, freedom of speech, independent justice, identities and artificial intelligence. The festival will take place in Olomouc from 2 to 6 April 2024 in several venues, including the auditorium of the Sts Cyril and Methodius Faculty of Theology of the Palacký University.

Academia Film Olomouc

Can memories deceive us? What happens when we entrust our memory to various technologies? What does the DNA of prehistoric times look like and what news from the life of dinosaurs can we learn from the latest research? What secrets does the fungal ecosystem hold? For six days, visitors to the AFO International Festival at Palacký University will be looking for answers to these and other questions. This festival of film and science will take place from 23 to 28 April 2024 in Olomouc. 57 films in three categories are competing for the favour of the expert jury.

Majáles – Student May Festival

The festival spring in the city will again once be enriched by the Student May Festival of Palacký University (Majáles UP). From 6 to 8 May 2024, it will offer a lot of music, film and theatre, the largest showcase of student and non-profit organisations, competitions, talks, exhibitions and workshops for everyone. All this under the subtitle Without Borders on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Czech Republic's accession to the European Union. Every day you can look forward to a different programme in a different location and great concerts by Bára Poláková, Pam Rabbit, Michal Horák or the Slovak DJ duo Malalata.
