The recently published draft of the White paper for establishing the Higher Education Institute induced a broad discussion. We would like to assure you that we highly appreciate work of all faculty staff and therefore we are trying to enforce such steps that will not have negative impact on individual departments and their functioning.The complete statement of the faculty management is available here.

Czech-Polish research projects
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has announced a call for proposals for joint Czech-Polish research projects with implementation period in 2020-2021. The deadline for submitting proposals is June 13, 2019, to Miriam Delongová, e-mail: miriam.delongova@upol.cz at the Science and Research Department. More information is available here.

Czech-French research projects
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has launched a call for proposals for joint Czech-French research projects with implementation in 2020-2021. The deadline for submitting proposals is June 25, 2019 to Miriam Delongová, e-mail: miriam.delongova@upol.cz at the Science and Research Department. Detailed information is available here.

INTERACTION
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has announced a public tender in research, development and innovation of the INTER-ACTION sub-program (2019LTAIN) with the purpose of carrying out international relations in research and development with focus on Czech-Indian cooperation. Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv cooperation possibility
Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is offering cooperation within the framework of the inter-university agreement. The university is especially interested in expanding the opportunities for exchange programmes for both students and lecturers, such as short-term internships (academic/language) or summer schools. Fulbright scholarships
We would like to draw your attention to the Fulbright scholarships as a possibility of long-term research stays connected to Czech sciences in USA and at American universities in the Czech Republic. Typically, scholarships cover living expenses, return tickets, and health insurance, or other costs. The basic prerequisites for applying for scholarship in any of our programs are Czech citizenship, permanent residence in the Czech Republic and a very good knowledge of English.

Call for science start-ups
Falling Walls Venture is a global platform for the most promising research-based start-ups nominated by academic institutions from across the world. We provide a stage for pioneering founders who have turned science into business, creating entrepreneurial solutions for today's most pressing challenges. All academic institutions are invited to take part by nominating their best science-based start-up online for the competition. All selected start-ups will win a stipend covering travel and accommodation for their trip to Berlin, where they will take part in Falling Walls Conference on the 8 November. Postdoc support - new call for applications
It is still possible to submit applications for postdoc support this year since some postdocs are currently unable to enroll. For more information, contact Mgr. Waleria Słowiková (waleria.slowikova@upol.cz) as soon as possible.

For students

Closing studies before Final state examinations
We would like to draw attention to students of the third year of Bachelor and second year of follow-up Master degree programs to the obligation to complete the year before the final state examination. The year must be closed at least three weeks before the final examination / defense of thesis in person at the Study Department.

Graduation ceremonies
The graduation ceremony of graduates of Bachelor and Master degree programs will take place on June 24-27 in the auditorium of the Faculty of Science, 17. listopadu 1192/12, Olomouc (2nd floor). Students are asked to confirm their attendance by e-mail. The exact schedule will be published in the second half of June. Enrollment into following year of study
Registration and enrollment certificates will not be submitted for enrollment of students in the higher years of Bachelor and Master degree programs. The study duties for academic year 2018/2019 must be completed by September 5. By this date the results must also be recorded in STAG. After September 5, 2019, credits / exams / colloquiums are no longer accepted for ac. year 2018/2019, nor may the results be recorded in STAG. Students are required to check the entry of the results in STAG by the date specified above.

Extension of studies
Students of the third year of Bachelor studies and the second year of the follow-up Master studies who will not fulfill all study obligations in this academic year, i.e. they will not have a closed year before final state examination / thesis defense by September 5, 2019 - must submit an application for extension of study at the Study Department.

Student evaluation in doctoral studies
We ask PhD students to submit evaluation for 2018/2019 academic year by June 30, 2019. The assessment must be signed by the student as well as his/her supervisor and must include a written statement from the supervisor on whether he / she recommends the student´s advancing to the following year. Even after submitting the evaluation, the student can complete subjects enrolled in Stag by September 5, 2019. After September 5, 2019, compliance with the conditions for proceeding to the next year will be checked.

At the same time, students of fourth and higher years of study will submit their application to extend their studies. The application must also include comments and signature of the supervisor.

Miscellaneous

Summer POSPOS
The Dean of the Faculty of Science invites all employees, PhD students and seniors of the Faculty to the traditional Post-semestral gathering. Summer POSPOS will be held in the main building of the Faculty of Science on Wednesday, June 12 at 12:00. You can enjoy barbecue and desserts. There will also be live music to dance or listen to.

Best birthday card competition
The Dean of the Faculty of Science announces a competition for the best design of a Birthday card. UP employees and students can compete with their designs. The author of the best card will receive a financial reward of CZK 3,000 - 5,000 and a voucher for a three-day stay for two in the faculty recreational facility in Karlov. You can send your proposals by June 30, 2019 either electronically to e-mail magdalena.ondrusakova@upol.cz, by post or deliver them personally after prior agreement with Mgr. Magdalena Ondrušáková, Dean's Office of the Faculty of Science, 6th floor, office 6.010, 17. listopadu 12, 779 00 Olomouc.

Science and Research Fair
The traditional Science and Research Fair will be held on June 7 and 8, this year's theme is „Save the Planet!" The event is traditionally free of charge and takes place in the main Faculty building on Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and at the Faculty of Science on Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Insect meadow
An insect meadow will be established behind the main building of the Faculty of Science, which will strive to feed the inhabitants of already existing nearby insect hotels. There are more follow-up activities connected to this project, including adjustments to existing irrigation. In the meantime, for these small creatures, we let the green space between the central building and the Joint Laboratory of Optics grow freely, which is why it is not mowed. The meadows in the cities are not only "trendy", but mainly fulfill their ecological function.

Employee Guide
Helping new employees get acquainted with the university environment is the aim of the employee guide recently revised by the Human Resources Department of the Rector´s Office and the Department of Communication of UP. The updated guide is intended especially for new employees and is now available as a PDF file. More at here.
