TA CR – QuantERA II Call 2023: Quantum Technologies Research Call

The international call QuantERA II Call 2023 is focused on research in quantum technologies. Call topics:

  • Quantum Phenomena and Resources (basic research)
  • Applied Quantum Science (applied research)

Businesses and research organisations can apply for support. Project proposals may be submitted by international project consortia consisting of at least three eligible independent partners from countries selected by the provider. Faculty deadline: May 4, 2023.

MH – EU4Health Call

Call number EU4H-2022-PJ-16 of the Ministry of Health (MH) is aimed at submitting proposals to support Member States and other relevant actors in implementing relevant innovative public health research results in the context of covid-19 vaccination. The grant is provided by the EU, applications are submitted through the EC portal – Funding&Tenders. Grant applications are accepted until March 16, 2023 (17:00), faculty deadline: March 13, 2023 (green request form "košilka" + Brief project information) – submit the documents to Mgr. Ľubica Korcanová (lubica.korcanova@upol.cz).

The Czech Science Foundation (GA CR) – Call for submitting Slovenian-Czech projects

GA CR announces a call for submission of projects based on the principle of Lead Agency evaluation with the expected start of the solution in 2023. The call concerns projects financed in cooperation with the Slovenian agency Javna agencija za raziskovalno dejavnost Republike Slovenije (ARRS) within the Weave initiative. In this call, the Slovenian agency ARRS acts as the Lead Agency, i.e. it evaluates project proposals from a scientific point of view, and GA CR takes over the results of the evaluation process. Projects are for a maximum of three years, the GA CR allows for a project duration of 24 or 36 months.

GA CR – Competition Plan for 2023

As every year, the GA CR will launch the Standard Projects competition for all researchers. In addition, there will be international calls for joint projects from at least two countries and competitions for young researchers JUNIOR STAR and POSTDOC INDIVIDUAL FELLOWSHIP. There will be a one-year break for the EXPRO competition, which will be re-launched in 2024.

The competitions will be launched around mid-February – as there will be only minor changes to the award documents, scientists can already start thinking about their research projects.

MSCA individual grants for foreign postdocs (MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships)

Horizon Europe - Pillar I/Excellent research/Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions.

The call for MSCA PF 2023 applications will be open: April 12, 2023 – September 13, 2023. Become a supervisor for MSCA PF and strengthen your research team with a foreign junior researcher (within 8 years of Ph.D. defense).

Benefits: quality/quantity of scientific outputs, internationalization of the team and the institution, deepening of international cooperation, prestigious grant, increased bonus for other grants – for fellows/supervisors, development of structured mentoring in the research team, broadening experience with international projects.
PF conditions: min. Ph.D., you can apply max. 8 years after Ph.D. defense (extended by maternity leave), for the last 3 years the postdoc has been in the Czech Republic for a maximum of 12 months.

For PF/month: 4018 EUR salary, 600 EUR mobility allowance (+ 660 EUR family allowance), duration of MSCA PF (12-24 months)
For the institution/month: 1000 EUR research, training, networking; 650 EUR management, indirect costs.
Funding: from HE (project evaluation above 93%), from ERA Fellowships (above 91% of project evaluation), from OP JAK – MSCA (70-90% of project evaluation; 5% co-financing from the department)

International and Non-university Affairs

Fischer scholarship holder's seminar
Vice-Dean for International Relations prof. Dušek, cordially invites you to the seminar for Fischer scholars. The event will be held on Tuesday, February 7, at 9:00 a.m. in the Big Conference Room, Dean's Office (room 6.014) on the 6th floor of the Faculty of Science. The attendance of the Fischer scholarship holders and their supervisors is requested, however, all the other faculty employees and students are welcome too.

The Merrill Programme

The Rectorate's Office for Mobility announces a call for applications for semester study stays within the Merrill Programme at partner schools in the USA in the academic year 2023/2024. Interested UP students, except students from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, can find detailed information and download a printable application form on the Office for Mobility website.

The application form with the required attachments (motivation essay, CV, overview of study results, references) can be submitted in person, but delivery by email or post to the address below by Monday, February 12, 2023 is preferred. Selected students can count on tuition fee waiver and financial contribution from the Palacký University to cover living and boarding expenses, however, the need for financial participation of the student to cover partial fees, travel costs, pocket money remains. Preparation and reporting of mobilities

All students going on study stays and internships abroad must inform the international section of the Study Affairs Office of the Faculty of Science UP about their intention to go and the beginning and end of their trip.

We also ask all lecturers who intend to go abroad within the Erasmus+ programme to contact the international section of the Study Affairs Office of the Faculty of Science first

Information about foreign students who will come for an internship and about foreign experts who will come as part of Erasmus+ must be sent to the international office in advance by the department to which they are to come.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: Doctoral Networks

The Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (BAYHOST), the Bavarian Research Alliance (BAYFOR) and the Bavarian-Czech Academic Agency (BTHA) jointly invite researchers from Bavaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia to a workshop to present the MSCA Doctoral Networks programme, which aims to fund international networks to engage DSP students in research on advanced materials and artificial intelligence and sustainability. The workshop will take place in Regensburg on March 22 and 23, 2023. More information can be found in the programme.

2023 Barrande Fellowship Programme

The French Institute in Prague, the French Embassy in the Czech Republic and the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MSMT) announce the launch of the Barrande Fellowship Programme for 2023, the exchange mobility programme for Ph.D. students between the Czech Republic and France. The programme offers scholarships to support short research stays and studies under dual supervision (cotutelles). The application deadline is February 12, 2023. Germany, BTHA – summer schools and language courses in Bavaria

The Bavarian-Czech Academic Agency (BTHA) offers scholarships for summer schools and language courses in Bavaria. Students, PhD students, teachers and researchers from public universities in the Czech Republic can apply directly via the BTHA website. Further information can be found on the BTHA website. Application deadline: March 29, 2023.

Bilateral cooperation: Ukraine

Following the "Agreement between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (MEYS) and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on cooperation in the field of education and science", which was signed in Prague on November 22, 2022, scholarships are provided to the Czech Republic to complete the entire university course in the bachelor, master's or doctoral study program at one of the Ukrainian universities. Application instructions can be found in the offer details. Applications are accepted by the MEYS. Application deadline: March 15, 2023.

Bilateral cooperation: summer courses Poland

Poland offers 3 weeks of summer courses in Polish language and culture. Students of Polish Studies or Central European Studies oriented towards Poland, or academics from these fields, can apply. There are 12 places available. Application instructions can be found in the offer details. Applications are accepted by the AIA. Application deadline: February 16, 2023.

Bilateral cooperation: scholarships Poland

Academic staff and university students (BSP, MSP, DSP) can take advantage of study and research stays in Poland. The duration of stays is 1 to 5 months for academic staff and 2 to 10 months for students. The conditions of the scholarship can be found in the offers details. Applications are accepted by AIA. Application deadline: February 16, 2023.

Bilateral cooperation: scholarships Slovakia

The Slovak Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport offers scholarships for study stays of 3 to 10 months for MSP and DSP students, and lecture and research stays of maximum 2 weeks for university teachers and academic staff. Bilateral cooperation: summer courses China

The Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China is offering a two- to four-week summer course in Chinese for university teachers in 2023. Teachers from Charles University (1 place), Masaryk University (1 place) and Palacký University in Olomouc (2 places) can apply for the scholarship.

Applications are accepted by the international departments of the rectorates of the respective universities. The deadline for universities to submit applications to the MEYS is March 31, 2023. Details of the offer can be found in the AIA Scholarship Finder (in Czech).

Research internships: Von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics

The Von Karman Institute of Fluid Dynamics (VKI), a world-leading research facility in the field of fluid mechanics based in Belgium, opens several teaching and research programs (weekly specialized lectures, short training program, Research master and Ph.D. program) for engineering and science students. Those who apply by April 1, 2023 have a better chance of receiving a scholarship, as the VKI pays the funds for the academic year from October to June.

Taiwan Government Scholarship Programme for Research in Semiconductor and Advanced Technology

The Taiwanese government is now offering scholarships for Master's and PhD students to pursue a full-time degree in semiconductors at one of five prestigious Taiwanese universities that offer world-class technological know-how. Upon their return to the Czech Republic, they can expect a great job in a newly built research and development centre for semiconductors or in one of the companies that operate in the chip supply chain. The application process is online. Application deadline: February 15, 2023.

Scholarships for Czech language assistants at schools in Saxony (Germany)

The Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) in cooperation with the Saxon Ministry of Cult offers scholarships for Czech language teaching assistants in schools in Saxony. The offer is intended for students who have successfully completed at least the fourth semester of their studies at a university in the Czech Republic, usually in the fields of German studies or German language teaching. The stays last from the beginning of September 2023 until the end of May 2024. More information can be found in the offer details. Scholarships for Czech language assistants at schools in Bavaria (Germany)

The Free State of Bavaria is announcing a selection process for the positions of Czech language teaching assistants in schools in Bavaria. The offer is intended for students under 29 years of age with min. a successfully completed fourth semester of study at a university in the Czech Republic, usually in the fields of German studies or German language teaching. The stays last from the beginning of September 2023 to the end of February 2024 or from March to the end of July 2024. More information can be found in the offer details. Applications should be sent by email by April 30, 2023 to maximilian.weig@stmuk.bayern.de.

Robitschek Scholarship: studies at the University of Nebraska

University of Nebraska in Lincoln offers scholarships for talented Czech and Slovak students, which will allow them to spend up to two semesters studying overseas. Admission is decided by the result of the selection procedure, in which the candidate demonstrates the necessary level of knowledge of English, academic prerequisites, experience in leading teams and the determination to pursue an academic or other career in the Czech Republic. Applicants can read the information on the selection procedure on the university's website. Finalists will be invited to an online interview in the second half of March. Applications should be submitted by March 1, 2023.

AMEXCID (Mexico): scholarship stays for medical fields

The Mexican government organization AMEXCID offers scholarships for:

  • stays of up to 24 months for medical fields
  • stays of up to 36 months for partial medical specializations

Detailed information about the scholarship offer can be found on the AMEXCID website and in their current 2023 brochure. Applications are submitted online via the SIGCA portal. An overview of the offer is published in the AIA Scholarship Finder (in Czech). Preference is given to applicants already residing in Mexico. Application deadline: March 30. Successful applicants will be notified of the results of the selection process between April 17 and 24, 2023.

When submitting your dissertation or application for the state doctoral examination, adhere to the requirements and deadlines listed on the website in the section for Doctoral Study. Keep in mind that it needs to be done at least 3 months in advance.

FB FS UP jobs

For students and graduates, the faculty has launched a new Facebook page in Czech with job offers called “PřF UP jobs”. On this platform, the faculty provides job opportunities in the fields of mathematics, computer science, physics, optometry, biology, ecology and the environment, chemistry and earth sciences, as well as part-time jobs, internships, trainee programs or volunteering opportunities suitable for university students.

UP Academic week

The Palacký University Academic Week annually commemorates the re-establishment of Palacký University Olomouc in 1946, when on February 21 the bells of all Olomouc churches rang out in honour of this event. The University regularly organises a number of cultural, scientific and social activities on this date, to which the public is also invited. This year also marks the 450th anniversary of the founding of the university in Olomouc.

Donate Blood with the Rector

Are you a regular blood donor or thinking about donating? As part of the UP Academic Week, which will take place from February 13 to 17, you can take part in the 12th annual Donate Blood with the Rector challenge. It will take place at the Transfusion Department of the Olomouc University Hospital. First-time blood or blood plasma donors are especially welcome. Just register by February 7 at daruj@upol.cz. All donors registered in this way can look forward to a small gift. The Donate Blood with the Rector challenge as well as the long-running competition "Roll up your sleeves" will be launched on Monday morning directly at the Transfusion Department by the Rector of the University Martin Procházka and the President of the Czech Red Cross Marek Jukl.

Love is Science!

For the second weekend of February (11th and 12th) the Fort Science has prepared a programme called 'Love is Science!' Each exhibit will feature a station with an interesting love-themed activity. The rich program starts at 10:00 and ends at 18:00. The event is included in the regular museum admission. Only for the cosmetic making in the science workshops you pay in addition. Reservations for workshops are possible at the Fort Science's ticket office during opening hours.

Board games

Playing board games at the Faculty of Science continues in the summer semester! Come and play modern board games every Tuesday and Thursday in the afternoon/evening in the classroom 1.037. There are around 200 games available on site, and if you can't find one, you can also ask for the home stock of the regular game meeting participants, or bring your favourite game yourself and teach it to others. Changes at the employee website

In the middle of this week, the display of news on the Palacký University's employee website and the Faculty of Science's employee website will be cancelled. Newly, employees can find news on the UP Portal (after standard login). This is the first step in a long-term effort to unify information channels for employees, which aims to move data and news to a non-public platform. Further changes will occur gradually.
