Dear colleagues, dear students,
on Wednesday, April 28, President Miloš Zeman appointed Martin Procházka the Rector of Palacký University Olomouc at Prague Castle upon the proposal of the Academic Senate of Palacký University. The term of office of the new rector began on May 1.

The Faculty of Science will have representatives in the vice-rector team. Zdeněk Hradil will be in charge of science and research, Tomáš Opatrný will be in charge of information technology, ecological issues and the area of ​​sustainable development. Michal Malacka will be the Vice-Rector for Strategy and External Relations, and Vít Procházka will deal with communication and student affairs. Doctoral studies and project activities will be led by Dušan Lužný, study matters by Vít Zouhar, legislation and organization by Zdenka Papoušková and internationalization by Jiří Stavovčík.

At Wednesday's meeting of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science, Associate Professor Karel Lemr from the Joint Laboratory of Optics was elected the new chairman of the body.

Science and research

Call-3B Trondheim
The State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic, as a mediator of the Program "Environment, Ecosystems and Climate Change", financed from Norwegian Funds 2014 - 2021, has announced the first round of call No. Call-3B Trondheim - submission of project plans focused on pilot projects aimed at reducing pollution of surface waters by pharmaceuticals. The subsidy call from the program Environment, Ecosystems and Climate Change focuses on the protection of the quality of water in the Czech Republic and the reduction of surface water pollution by micropollutants. GA CR new measures - COVID-19.
The measures concern the budget (e.g. the possibility of drawing on unused funds in subsequent years, transfers between items), eligible costs in 2021 (e.g. cancellation fees, deferred conferences), commitments (e.g. increase of the limit for changes) and deadlines (postponement of the evaluation of final report ). Call-1 Rago
The State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic, as a mediator of the Program "Environment, Ecosystems and Climate Change", financed from the Norwegian Funds 2014 - 2021, has announced the first round of call No. Call-1 Rago - submission of project plans in improving ecosystems and biodiversity. The call is focused on the submission of project plans related to scientific research projects, innovative projects and the transfer of examples of good practice to the conditions of environmental protection in the Czech Republic. International and non-university matters

European Southern Observatory
Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) announces a call for applications for an internship with the international organization ESO (European Southern Observatory). The place of the internship is Germany or Chile, the scholarship is 2,500 - 3,000 EUR per month (depending on the education and placement of the intern), the length of the internship is 6-12 months (with the possibility of extension). Czech students, scientists and engineers under the age of 32 who work in any of the following fields can apply: astronomy, astrophysics, software engineering, electrical engineering, mechanics, controlling, optics, operations engineering, project management. The application must be sent in English by May 31, 2021 to the MEYS contact, the selection of interns will be made in June-July 2021, the start date of the internships is September 2021. Fellowship programme at the Université Paris-Saclay
The Université Paris-Saclay offers fellowship program for highly qualified scientists from all countries. The university offers junior and senior researcher fellowship for the duration from 6 to 12 months. Deadline for applications is on May 28, 2021. The EU is looking for funding and selection procedure experts
The European Commission is looking for experts to assist EU services with the implementation of EU funding and tenders. A detailed description of the call can be found in the attached document. If you are interested, register on the Expert Database Portal. This call is open permanently for the duration of the EU Multi-annual Financial Framework 2021-2027.

Study matters

Opening hours of the study department
The study department is fully open according to its regular office hours.

Closing of the year through state exams
Closing of the year before the final state exam (at least three weeks before the exam) can be done by e-mail. After fulfilling his / her study obligations, the student contacts his/her study assistant.

Student trips abroad
We would like to remind the departments that all student trips abroad must be reported to Mrs. Gronychová. Otherwise, the trip will not be recorded in STAG system and will not be displayed on the Diploma Supplement.

State doctoral examination and dissertation defense
When submitting the dissertation or application for the state doctoral examination, it is necessary to observe the deadlines specified on the website under the doctoral study.

The graduation will probably take place (depending on the epidemiological situation) from July 12-16, 2021. For students who will take final state examinations at the end of June and in July, the graduation will take place in November (depending on the epidemiological situation). Candidates can apply to their study assistant after successfully completing their state exams.

Department of Pedagogical Training of the Faculty of Science of UP announces to students
On the website there is an application form for continuous student teacher training for students of 2nd year of follow-up Master study program and concurrent supplementary study of teaching. The date of the fall internship will be published by the end of the summer semester and 2020/2021, the internship will last four weeks. Students can send applications now, however, no later than September 1, 2021. Only registered students will be included in the continuous teacher training.

Registered students will be placed at schools in Olomouc, or in the nearby region (Šternberk, Přerov, Prostějov, Uničov, Litovel). Students do not have to arrange their internship at these schools themselves, in the application they will state at which school in Olomouc or its surroundings they would like to do an internship. Students who want to do an internship in another region must arrange the internship themselves. At the same time, they must apply to the school principal for permission to undergo a continuous teaching internship on the application form as soon as the date of the fall internship is available.

Student scientific competition for the Dean's Award
Students of bachelor's, master's and doctoral disciplines in the Student Scientific Competition for the Dean's Award, which will take place on Thursday, July 1, can compete for an extraordinary scholarship, as well as valuable prizes. The program will be divided into sections Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Ecology, Earth sciences and Didactics of science; the poster session will be common to all fields. Faculty operation

Extension of the training of drivers of reference vehicles
Due to the fact that in the current situation it is not possible to conduct training for drivers of reference motor vehicles, in accordance with Act No. 262/2006 Coll., The Labor Code, as amended, the validity of the training has been extended. The original expiry date October 2020 has been postponed to October 31, 2021.

Testing of employees and students
Another COMPULSORY TESTING of Faculty of Science UP employees who perform work at their workplace will take place on: 

  • Wednesday May 5, 9:00 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Thursday May 6, 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. 

The testing will take place in the main building of the Faculty of Science, 17.listopadu 12, in the reading room on the 6th floor. The room number is 6.022 and can be found behind the buffet B6. To make a reservation please use exclusively the following link (In case the capacity is not sufficient, we will add more.).  You will receive an automatically generated email to confirm your registration, in which you find your assigned registration number for the testing. A text message will remind you the date (and your registration number) of the testing the day before the event. Please remember (or bring) your registration number with you on the testing day.

From Monday, April 26, full-time students at the Faculty of Science can participate (or have joined) students in the last years of bachelor's and master's studies in practical and laboratory education. The presence of students is conditioned by an up-to-date negative test for Covid-19. They can take advantage of free testing at the Faculty of Science on Monday from 7:30 to 9:00 or on Tuesday to Thursday from 8:00 to 9:00. World Congress of Environmental Education
Next year, from March 14-18, 2022, the 11th World Congress of Environmental Education (WEEC) will take place, the main theme of the congress will be the building of bridges in times of climatic emergency. The congress will feature important personalities from academia and the world of practical environmental education. You can discuss current research and perspectives in the field of environmental education and training for sustainable development in many parallel sections or in so-called cross-cutting dialogs. An important part of the congress is also the involvement of Czech environmental centers, which will offer practical workshops in their field sessions. There will also be a number of events within the accompanying program, including excursions and the Youth Environmental Education Congress for young active people aged 14 to 26. We therefore invite all experts who deal with education for sustainable development, environmental education or focus on environmental contexts in their research to participate in the congress. The deadline for sending abstracts is August 31, 2021. This deadline also applies to so-called early bird registration.

"Česká hlava" award for high-school students
The company Česká hlava is announcing the 15th year of the Česká hlava competition for gifted high school students. The aim of the Project is to appreciate and support exceptionally talented students whose work, skills, diligence and determination significantly exceed the secondary school average and whose work is focused on the fields of natural or technical sciences. The deadline for applications is June 30, 2021. The decisive date is the date when the work is delivered to the organizer of the competition. More at

Distance learning at UP in Olomouc during the COVID-19 epidemic
